Weather

Why that lousy weatherman on KTVQ ! He had me believing the people in Sheridan were building an ark .
Has to be remembered that the mountains curve around Sheridan making like a land bay like an ocean bay. This protects us from a lot of the worst weather.

I was working outside yesterday, and once my hands got wet, it was borderline glove weather. We had a big blustery wind out of the north. By Spring when it's like this, I'll be running around thinking it's summer, but my body is still adjusting from its luxurious warm season. From here on in, it could get cool enough for snow at any point.

Leaving North Carolina tomorrow and flying back to Maryland. I hope my flight is not delayed or canceled.

Nor'easter heading our way here on the east coast. Flood watches are up from Maine to the Carolinas.
Stay safe out there!

Absolutely gorgeous in the Cowboy State today: Scattered clouds, high 60sF, and no wind. I actually enjoy crosswalk duty this time of year. Everybody's in a good mood, and I get an occasional hunting story for my trouble. :)

Hope you got out ok. This one looks angry, and huge! That's Long Island and southern New England above, and Georgia at the bottom:

@gwand I hope your travels were uneventful because the hurricanes and Nor’easter’s you get back East are as bad , or maybe even worse , than the blizzards we get out West here . It is the most beautiful fall weather anyone could ask for here in Montana right now but that is due to change overnight . Snow is forecast for western Montana’s mountains and cooler wetter weather for those of us in central and eastern Montana . As Gary said , summer is solidly in the rear view mirror now .

I'm starting to wonder if/when it is going to get to 'proper' Sheridan Wyoming weather for this time of year. We have not had a single snowflake yet, not even at night. Normally we have night time snow before the end of September but it is the end of October and not a flake.

Be careful what you wish for .

We are in spring here and have had cool weather (20C) on Sunday and for weeks leading up to it. Monday the temp went up a couple of degrees but Tuesday it hit 36C. Wednesday it came back down to 22C. We literally had a 14-16C jump in temperature in one day. That doesn't normally happen and we don't normally have mid 30C temps in October.

Happy November everyone.

If things follow normal patterns, my walk to the fishroom, with no jacket today (it's 9c) will be a walk through falling snow some day very soon.

It got nicely warm yesterday since we got the edge of the hurricane. Steady winds, but not too high ones, and a complete (and needed) drenching with rain from the southeast. Some stream beds that were dry are running again, based on FB photos.

Yesterday morning I had a full herd of deer standing in the back field, getting battered by the rain. I'm guessing the wind was throwing around enough branches that sitting in the woods was unsafe for them, but they were the picture of misery out there. My wife said I couldn't make hot chocolate and invite them in.

Now that November is upon us those of us in the Mountain West ( @jaylach and @WhistlingBadger ) can expect anything from a mild and pleasant Indian Summer to blizzards and below zero temperatures . I like to be my own weatherman and make my own predictions from things I see . I haven’t as yet seen too many of those big flocks of robin sized birds wheeling around and back and forth yet as they get ready to migrate . The flocks I have seen are small too . I take this as a sign of mild weather for the foreseeable future but as we all know around here that can change quickly . But something I saw yesterday also makes me think warm weather . I saw a live grasshopper .

Actually hit 70F here in Sheridan on 11/1/2025.

Those 'robin sized birds are most likely common starlings. Had a HUGE flock come through Sheridan a few days ago. I'd bet money that there were at least 2000 of the beasties. :)
