What's new

Weather

We're having occasional scattered warm spots. 20 minutes inland, it's 31c. Here, it's 22. Really, everyone needs an ocean. With the melting of the ice up north, it's on its way to help.
Or a river I have. The back side of my building always feels cooler than the front. It is a rather small river but you can feel the difference.

walked the dog through the park, while Mrs. was in dialysis today, was significantly cooler under the big oak trees right next to the lake…

'hot' is always relative after all your hot could be my cold - but around here we are a degree or two off of 100 for the following week or two. Normally (what ever normality used to be) it would wait till mid august to get this warm.

I can easily deal with hot or cold as long as the humidity is low.

Low humidity is relative your low might be my high - but around here during the day it is only around 50-60% and in the morning hours when things are really nice it is only 80%.

Here in Sheridan WY the relative humidity is 28% right now. 30-35% is fairly common. This makes things 'feel' a lot cooler

The US and eastern Europe are now getting the weather western Europe had last week.
The World Health Organisation said a couple of days ago that an estimated 1300 excess deaths in western Europe last week could be attributed to the hot weather so wherever you live, be careful.

I will be hibernating in my air conditioned home office with tv snd chromebook to keep me occupied.

In the school I worked in in another city, built for a different climate, my classroom could reach 46 C /115f when it was 30 outside during early June heat waves. It would build up. We'd have 85% humidity, and in the hallways when all the teenagers were changing classes, the sweat and humidity cloud was visible. I'd watch the hallway with a colleague who was a foot shorter than me, and he'd laugh at how he could see the humidity around my face. I was in it, he was under it. That would happen maybe 2 or 3 days a year, but it was a rough day for all. The school board would measure the heat elsewhere in the building and say it was all okay.

We have so many buildings in so many places with ventilation systems built for another world. We had similar issues during the pandemic, when the virus spread easily in the stagnant air. So many buildings are going to need serious retrofitting of systems as we keep on using them. Some of the old longterm care facilities were where the death rates in heat waves would climb.

We have a growing cruise ship stop business around here. Sometimes we have 5000 visitors in our small city. Why would you visit an old industrial port? It has its beauty, but it's the cool climate. People come here to escape the heat in the US. The things people used to try to get away from are becoming destinations.

well… what follows high heat and humidity??? torrential rains… over 5 inches of rain this morning, so far, interstate 90 is closed, with feet of water over the road… frontal boundary has storms lining up and training right over us, for the next several days, we have been in a mild drought… it’s dry no longer…

So many AC units running with 100 degree temperatures that we have a power outage in my area. I’m running on our generator.

Well the extreme heat warning ends toady at 10pm (from Monday)
Doesn't seem too bad right now at 73F-real feel 79F, but high today is expected 93F/real feel 103F with sporadic T-storms and humidity of 80% in the evening (Yay? rain...)
According to Accuweather we will be breaking the high set in 2019 of 92F. Also yay(?) to breaking records
If only my words can convey the sarcasm in them...;)

101F. in Allentown, Pa area, second day! Crazy, my central air is running constant, not maintains my Set Temp of 71…. I understand why, ambient temp. and all, as soon as sun starts getting low, should be good to get the house down to 71 again… At 5:30 AM, it was already 80 degrees.. This is very unusual for our neck of the woods, one more day or so, Geezeeeee
