It’s been an unseasonably cooler than normal June here along the banks of the mighty Yellowstone River but since we had a dry snowless winter that’s a good thing . What little snow there is is melting slowly and the Yellowstone hasn’t dropped far yet . Mornings have actually been cold lately .

Here in the UK this is the temperature in my tanks yesterday. A few years ago when my wife and I both worked full time, the house would be closed up all day and higher temperatures than this were often the norm for weeks on end. The current wisdom is that if the outside temperature is greater than inside you should keep windows closed. That makes perfect sense but in practice that's not what I experience. These days there is usually someone at home so windows are open and tank temperatures such as this are much rarer and not sustained.

It is now 11.40 am. The 'liquid' thermometer in shrimp tank in the south facing kitchen reads 27 deg C (81 deg F); In cooler weather the heater keeps the tank at 23 C. This room has the roller blind half way down as we need enough light to see what we are doing.
The digital thermometer in the main tank in north facing dining room reads 25.2 C (77F). The heater usually keeps the temp at 23.5 C. The curtains are open at the moment but they'll be half closed mid afternoon.
We have a Galileo thermometer in the lounge - the 24 C glass bubble has sunk but the 26 C bubble is still floating. This room has a large south facing patio door and the curtains are closed while the north facing window curtains are open so there's plenty light in the room.

The room temperatures will rise during the afternoon as the outside temps will go up. Today's predicted maximum is 27 C and 28 C tomorrow, then 26 C on Saturday (they've changed that upwards since yesterday) and 20 C on Sunday so the tanks should start cooling again.

30 is the outside temperature here, currently. My tanks are in one of the cooler rooms in the house and are sitting at 26.5, which is great. I've switched the heaters off (joking )...

Dreading tomorrow though - it's going to be as hot, if not slightly more so, than yesterday, and that was almost intolerable.

I didn't bother turning the heaters back on after the water changes a couple of days ago. They'll be turned on when the tank temps reach their usual level to keep them there.


I've just checked the north facing bedroom - 25 C. I've recharged the Frio wallet for my eye drops as the middle bag was shrinking a bit.

I've watched the weather in Europe the last few days. 100 F in France and even Scotland feeling the heat. What a sight, all the pastie pale brits out in the heat lol.
The heat is coming here in the states as well. I have 90+ forecast for a few days in a row starting on Monday.

In a rare case of good timing, I've just purchased an Inkbird and a cooling fan that should arrive tomorrow.

The Inbird and cooling fan are what I have for my long fin White Clouds. Great solution...just have to keep on top of the higher evaporation! The higher heat is reaching us in Northern California, time to dust of the portable AC for the office.

Temperature in my tanks is now 31.7C (89F), same as the room. Outside it's 34.5C and rising. Fish seem unperturbed.

Since temperatures in central Canada can be a roller coaster, I'll pass along an observation. I used to have a lot of heaters in a lot of tanks, and I learned to unplug them in the hot periods. I found that when they switched back on after hot spells, that was when I seemed to have the most trouble with them roasting tanks. I thought it would change when the tech moved to digital, but no. So if you don't have a controller, that observation might mean something....

In that case, I'll definitely keep an eye on the tank temps when the heat drops.

Ours was a present from my brother-in-law. We'd always liked them when they were in shop windows but never got round to buying one. They make a nice ornament as well as being useful

Wow . . . . and still , here in General Custer country , it’s unseasonably cool and mild . Speaking of the late and illustrious General Custer , today’s the day he was fitted for his Arrow shirt in 1876 .

heat dome… 1st time this year the air conditioner ran all night, with thermostat set at 75 degrees…I can’t wait to see the electric bill this next month…

I’ve been waiting very patiently for this much ballyhooed heat dome . Yesterday was almost cold here along the banks of the Mighty Yellowstone River . There was snowfall in the higher elevations and rain in abundance . Supposed to be warmer today and the sun is coming out but I’m afraid summer will come and go and never really have arrived .

We're having occasional scattered warm spots. 20 minutes inland, it's 31c. Here, it's 22. Really, everyone needs an ocean. With the melting of the ice up north, it's on its way to help.
