Ian's Lounge Tank

Bleach is the way forward, as long as it's not perfumed it's fine. I soak mine overnight after the C02 has been diffused for the day. I then soak the diffuser in Dechlor for a couple of hours. Bleach is mainly made up of Chlorine anyway. So the dechlor will gas off the bleach. I have never had any trouble. You'll get a really fine mist from your diffuser.

:X

I guess I'll be doing that tonight... never thought of doing it, always too scared to bleach equipment. The bleach I have at the moment unfortunately is perfumed. Still smells like bleach to me...

Would cleaning in a high ammonia solution have the same desired effect do you think?

Personally i wouldn't use it. I'm not sure if anyone else would? I was in my LFS the other day, i was talking to the JBL rep and he was trying to sell me their 'new' diffuser cleaner @ £8 a bottle. I looked on the back and it was watered down bleach!lol.
Unfortunately will be in Canada for another 2 months; just hope my bowfront comes out alright after that long of an absence....

Thanks Lu, i'm sure the tank will be OK, if not i'm sure we can sort it for you! :good:

Wow, that's impressive growth from the HC in six days. You'll have a full carpet in no time at this rate.

Give it a week, maybe two and he'll have a carpet of HC. Theres a video on youtube somewhere of a guy growing HC, he's got it to look like a rolling countryside with mounds, and sweeping hills. Certainly inspiration, why not try it Ian ;) Its all in the trimming of it apparently :shifty:

I have seen that vid, he certainly did a great job on the HC in that tank didn't he! Found it!

I used to clean my glass difuuser during a water change. I'd take it out first. Sucker it to a tile next to the sink then a bit of bleach for 5 mins, then rinse then another 5 mins then bleach then 10 mins of dechor then rinse then in the tank.

In between each stage I'd be removing/adding water. In reality I would end up leaving the dechlor in until finished with the water change so probs 20-40 minutes dependent on how ditracted I got. lol. Weekly keeps the mist fine enough IMO. If it needs doing daily then its time to get another method. lol

I wonder if that JBL is the same as the ADA one? If so it is not actually bleach but watered down sodium Chlorate. Bleach is watered down Sodium Hypochlorite. If it is actually watered down bleach then thin bleach is 30p or less in most supermarkets. lol

Strange thing is that you used to be able to buy big boxes of Sodium chlorate from Poundland until last year when it was banned for sale by the EU!!! It was sold as a weedkiller but is pretty bad stuff.

Makes me wonder how the some of the ADA products that clearly state they contain a decent percentage of Sodium chlorate, are atill sold in the UK get around this or have I just spoken too soon. lol

Love this picture Ian.

If I was Juwel, I'd be asking for rights to use this in the next advertising campaign, looks like a fantastic piece of furniture. Who needs TV's ehh?

James.

Whats the betting he fluffed up the pillows before the shot though eh ;)

On a serious note though, i agree with the statement above. Juwel get in contact :good:

Great use of HC! It says it is through pruning/trimming only, but I am sure they also fiddled with the substrate to get these mounds?

It looks great and it definitely looks like he must of used the contours of the substrate. However he does look like he has a lot of algae in that tank, I guess he makes up for it with the HC in though.

Wow cheers James, thanks for the compliment. There one main benefit of having a corner tank, you can see it from all angles of the room, and get a different view. 'My' settee is opposite the on in the pic, so i get the best view.

hahahahaha, no comment.

Oh without a doubt! Wouldn't be surprised if there was a few empty cans from the night before

Good job you can't see the bin, there would be maybe a couple of tins, but loads of crisps!

I'm sure Ian hid is Heat magazines and did the hoovering before he took the picture

You cannot see the paper rack either, so no comment! hahahaha

thanks everyone!
