Ian's Lounge Tank

My water is way to hard for any of those kind of fish. Its a shame cos i always stand any look at the soft water section in my LFS. Such nice fish...i tried the GBR's once and they really wouldn't have lasted long.

Ah right. Have you seen James rainbow fish? they're suited to your water..not that it matters.. cardinals look great. I just would always want a pair or something :)

This tank tempts me to try HC...

I love rainbows but they need to school, and i think the tank would look over stocked if i got some. I do like to see a pair of centerpieces in a tank as well.

Keyholes??

what do ya reckon?

not sure what keyholes are like for digging mate , may be worth looking into . if they are not diggers theyd be a nice addition . but it would be a shame to have your hemianthus dug up , its spreading really well . makes me want mine even more. seems like such a long time to wait!!! whats the plant on the far right? at the front?

Didn't one of the guys who packed up his tank for uni have keyholes... Lovely looking fish. Although not sure whether they're suited to harder water? I'm sure they would get used to it as most fish do.

if your cardinals are doing well ( and we all know how touchy they are) then i wouldnt have any fear about any fish really . with correct acclimatisation you should be fine :good:

I am surprised to hear that your gouramis were nibbling on plants? I have kept several types of gouramis and I have never had problems with them and plants...

For a centrepiece fish in harder water, what about kribensis? Nice fish and easy to keep. If you want to breed, you will have to provide them with a cave though....

whats the plant on the far right? at the front?

its Micranthemum umbrosum, its a nice little plant.

I have had a look around today and didn't see anything. I'll wait til i see something that tickles my fancy. Thanks for the help guys!

Tight shoaling Rasbora always make me go giddy in a planted tank ;) Haha. As for centre piece fish, cichlids dig in general and that can't helped. Gourami's are nice, but if you wanted them you'd have stuck with your Honeys right. Rainbows are an active fish, IMO i think they need more space to swim around. I have three Boesemani's in a 4ft and the speed they swim at enjoying themselves makes me feel bad for keeping them where they are.

I've just added a pair (hopefully) of Red Breast Acara to my planted tank and they love it, plus look amazing albeit they are juvi's still. Long term they will be in my watery section of my paludarium (which is coming along), but short term they look beautifull swimming in amongst my HC lawn and Pogostemon Helferi shrubs (with staghorn)

Back to my initial point. Harlequin Rasbora are the best choice for planted tanks IMHO, they shoal so well and look so elegant in larger groups. However, mixing tetras with Harlequins never works well, they intermingle and look messy from my experience. So its either or with them to be honest.

What is you general choice so far Ian? Anything caught your eye so far? This tank is really really good, reminds me how badly i need to refill my FE and get my CO2 back up (again!) Can't find anywhere in Coventry to refill them currently :fun:

My pair don't seem to do any digging, but like said it will need some looking into whether they do on occaision.

Man I love mine, what a great fish.

James.

Thanks for the thoughts peeps, will have a think about all the suggestions. I have added a few Cherry Barbs, just for a little different colour.
