Ian's Lounge Tank

Ian is that fert regime similar to how you ran the tank previously? Just wondering as i'm thinking of altering mine. My EI dosing isnt quite having the rewards it initially did, think its more a case of having to replace my T5 tubes, but CO2 issues need to be solved also and i'm thinking of starting out all over again but on a my Rio 180 instead.

Yes it is, i know my plants mass was higher in the last scape, however there are more demanding plants in this one. I will up it if i need to. Like i say though the tank will be getting daily water changes for a few weeks as well.

I can't understand how your using all of that C02, is it just gassing out of the top before dispersing? or did you just get a half full FE?

Top veiw, this is added, just so i can keep an eye on the spread of HC (hopefully)

Thanks Andy! Have you got yours started yet?

Nope its gonna be delayed because my Amp stopped working. Gotta buy a new AV receiver because there's no way I am gonna listen to the TV, PC and music through the TV speakers. The plants are coming out this weekend to be sold to buy the AV.

LOL, you do make me laugh.. funny that when the HC in his nano was planting in the same way, the 'pro's' on UKAPs including mr farmer suggested him plant it more like how ive mentioned lol.... so i guess it isnt the way the PRO'S plant it after all ;).

George is a PRO in standard but I was meaning those who make a living out of it. Oliver Knott and many many others do what is very often suggested i.e. take a pot. Take some scissors. Cut into 8 pieces. Plant these pieces rockwool and all.

It may be nice and quick but not lazy. Very effecitve to boot. I am lazy though. There's no way I am going to replant any that rises each day so I bury it below the substrate and let it grow through. Not that I use HC that much ;)

ahem, and this was the method used ala Tom Barr's HC carpet in that new tank of his. :good:

things always happen like that don't they! I'm sure you'll grab a bargain AV mate!

Yep and i dont disagree that this way works well.... however you hit the nail on the head really with....

I was meaning those who make a living out of it.

This could be the defining factor, doing a job well but quick is cost effective and less time consuming, doesn't actually mean it is the 'best' way ;).

I agree though (lazy side coming out lol), it is very tiresome to plant stem by stem... the end result is worth it though.

Inddeed it is.

Already got the bargain but still looking for something better. At which point I'll seel the bargain and replace it with a better bargain. lol. Got a 5 year old Yamaha for £50 until I get something newer for a decent price.

The rest of the plant money will buy replacement plants and maybe I can afford to feed the kids this month. lol

looking good ian . il look forward to watching this develop

Thanks Mark! You need to get started on yours now, and get some decent pics with that decent camera!

Now for tank stocking...i'm sticking with the Cardinals, some more will be added today. The Cory's have gone and also the Gourami (both at LFS). There are some cherry/Amano/Bee/Crystal shrimp in there. When i took the tank to bits i found loads of black and white bee shrimp (bonus). Also my Oto's had bred, however they were not found. The Oto's will hopefully breed again.

Nice choice on stocking Ian, a big group of schooling cardinals is hard to beat :)... the only problem i see is the bee shrimp (CBS) crossbreeding with the CRS... this will produce undesirable offspring which isn't counter productive for potential sales of them, if that doesn't really bother you what the offspring look like... then no real harm :good: .

BTW the video was excellent and the tank looks excellent....looking forward to the grown in pics :).

 at the comments... You guys are too funny.

Glad you're keeping the otos. I wish mine would breed. It's great to watch them school.

They already did Jake lol, this is where the black and white bee's have come from. They look stunning though! They are still tiny and in my nano at the moment, i found them when draining the tank. And cheers mate, will get another vid up tonight...

again i'm sorry for over-posting, it's great when you have a new scape though! lol

LOL, oh well, if your not bothered on the cross breeding then there really isn't a problem :good:, they are cute little shrimps and even more so when little... good luck with them mate :) and keep the pics coming.

LOL on the over posting... i didn't actually think you were... nice seeing new scape's develop... more pics and vids the better :good: .

another 8 Cardinals added today, this takes me up to 30 Cardinals. There will be no other fish added now (apart from a few more Oto's.

Here's a quick vid of the Cardinals.
