What are you doing today?

Part one of new computer upgrade: check mb has all parts (their packaging is getting trickier these days hiding the manual et all under a false bottom); install cpu; third party heat sink (probably not necessary for a fix clock cpu but i've used this brand before and it works really well); add the ram make sure the pcie cards will fit (have to use one of the vga slots since the mb only has 2 1 pcie cards and 2 full cards) and decide to wait till next week to screw it in the mb and power it up. Why do today what you can do tomorrow ?

I did manage to find a nifty little valve even if it is 100x more than any ol valve i've ever purchased but it is still nifty.
What type of cooler do you use? I prefer tube/pipe coolers even though they are bulky.

This is the one that is in my main desktop.

Noctua NH-U9S; it is over kill these days. I originally used stock fans as i did with the 2500k but when haswell refresh came out the fans were ineffective and the cpu would max out without overclocking. When i research back then i cam up with the NH-U9S as a good candidate - it reduced teh heat by over 40 degree when running prime95 - so it works well. I've only used one 3 or 4 times - as I dont' rebuild often and rarely use i7 - so this time i could probably have gotten away with included intel fan but i splurged.

There are cheaper options these days at are effective and while one might be better than the other probably not enough to worry a person. Btw when you bake in the price it includes a premium fan which runs $30 or so by itself. Since I run my mb/processor around 15 years i rather not deal with the fan failing (which i've had happen several times over the years).

Gotta say i should have done the upgrade last year or the year before before tariff and ai crap killed the price of ram et all. oh well bad timing (again). As for amd - i like their procesors just not their mb chipsets - seems like that has been the curse of amd for the past 20 or so years going back to the nforce crap. For a game pc i don't care so much about the mb chipset but for my server there are a few areas it matters more.

It seems that this time my brine shrimp culture is going fine, once again...

I'm sorry, no English subtitles. I'm trying to learn German in Duolingo, too (I may have already said that, but anyway...).

My beloved Johann (Trichogaster chuna) is so picky (in Portuguese, I would say something like "enjoado")... he remains picking and spitting the Poytara Betta. If he spits, why does he insist on picking the pellets, after all? He will certainly love the live brine shrimp.

Talking about Germans, does anyone know about what and where to find good references related to German history in the 19th century, such as economy, culture, and society? I know, my 3rd-great-grandparent was a Musician in the 27th Jäger Battalion in Brazil, coming in the 1820s, from the German Confederation (Hannover, at least it was the port where his ship embarked). His name was Johann Lange. He was possibly a rural worker and an Untertanen. I know that the region was destroyed during the Napoleonic Wars, and there are several impoverished Germans from rural areas.

Currently I'm watching the show 'Land Order' but, also, deciding what to watch later. Here are what I'm considering...
  • The Fugitive with Harrison Ford. This movie, along with the TV series, was loosely based on Dr. Sam Sheppard who was imprisoned for killing his pregnant wife. Shepard actually lived a few miles away from where I lived in Ohio. After living a large part of his life in prison he was finally vindicated when DNA became a factor. His son never gave up and finally was able to free his father. Sadly, his time in prison pretty much ruined him and he dies a drunk.
  • A Wonder Life with Jimmy Stewart. This has to be considered one of the best Christmas movies ever done. It was amazing how well the interaction between Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed went. This movie actually went public domain for several years due to failure to renew copyright protection. If I understand correctly it is now back under protection.
  • A Christmas Carol with Alister Sims as Scrooge. If you haven't seen it is the best version ever done. The one with George C Scott was good but still doesn't come close.
  • A White Christmas with Bing Crosby, Danny Kay, Rosemary Clooney and Vera Ellen. This has to be one of the most heart felt Christmas movies ever done and I have to admit that I always had a crush on Vera Ellen. ;) Not only was she very pretty but she was also an awesome dancer. The dance scene with her and Danny Kay is one of the best ever put to film.

I've just finished ep 2 of Fallout S2. A great post-apocalyptic world setting, not everyone's cup of tea. The Fallout franchise is one of my favourites, so any content they release I'm going to watch. Weirdly enough Macaulay Culkin is making an appearance in a later episode

I haven't watched yet but looks interesting. A short while back I added it to one of my streaming services' watch list.

I think a Christmas Carol is best fitting. Just don't go to bed straight after..

It's a good watch if you don't mind a very violent opening episode and lots of 18+ language. Great watch as well for references to the games

Yesterday I turned 70 and went for a seven mile run to usher in my seventh decade here on the blue marble . The weather is nice here for late December and today I’m spending most of the day at my oldest Daughter’s house , the only family left in town . Life is good .

@Back in the fold - Happy belated birthday!

I'm sitting in a room full of roasting turkey smells looking out at a snowfall that looks like a Hallmark movie. It's just a gentle, easy snowfall, with giant powder flakes accumulating quickly. It's my favourite snow - easy to clear with a broom and not a shovel. And, to make it extra corny, there's a male cardinal in the white pine out back, and deer in the field.

Yesterday, we got in via ferry, after a rocking rolling crossing. The view out the front windows was great, just rowdy seas, until the spray froze into an inch thick screen across the glass. Everyone was walking like they were 3 sheets to the wind, which had a lot of strangers laughing with each other- a nice way to get somewhere. You could tell the ferry crew were running full out to get home for christmas eve, and weren't worrying about keeping it smooth. It was a fun - a good start.

In a few minutes, the house will fill - 15 people including a bunch of kids.

I had grandkids all day yesterday so today I and the critters are having a quiet day of recovery. Dogs were walked, kittens were played, projects were done and they went home to mom at 8.

That is the first Christmas without my beloved Constantino (Betta splendens)...

However, Johann is here. I decided to use a hammer to break Poytara Betta into smaller pieces and... apparently, he is spitting less than before, accepting more of the food. Maybe the issue was granulometry? He can even see the brine shrimp nauplii and eat them, which didn't happen with my Betta. I am sorry, this is probably I photo I already uploaded a few weeks ago.

Oh, apparently, my brine shrimp (Artemia franciscana) are doing well. Maybe because I have changed the Artemia cysts brand? Why? Salinity is 45 g/L.

No microscope, so I had to use my tripod and my Canon® PowerShot SX400 IS. It seems that some parts of her gut are not completely filled.

I have been listening to Alan Braxe and DJ Falcon's versions of "So Much Love to Give" from Arte Concert Trabendo 2022. Very interesting music. Now I must find out if where I live there are interesting places to simply dance...

Merry Christmas!
