what do you use as a base...chicken stock? beef stock? or no stock?

I like several soups but I guess my favorites would be a tomato/basil bisque and a grilled cheese sandwich or, oddly not all that popular anymore, split pea with ham and onions.

No stock . I just like a good plain vegetable soup or bean soup . Pearled barley is good too . If I want meat I like to get a small round steak and trim the fat off really good , cut it up in little pieces and brown it before putting it in the soup . To my mind all a stock is is leftover fat . I bet @jaylach can make a good soup .

If you freeze the stock all the fat collects on the surface where you can scrape it off. Then you are left with liquid gold.

Bought a fish today.

Saw a lonely cherry tetra sharing a tank with a shoal of red eye tetra at the shop. Now this guy has a tank to share with his own kind

When I had higher pH well water I did my 135 as a Tang tank.
Lots and lots of rocks~!

Stack or lay your rocks before gravel so no settling when the fish dig.
I liked J.marlieri the most but kept many others also over time.
It was a great tank to watch.

Our water here has a high PH of 8.0-8.2 but its very soft water (0-3 dgh). The KH though is what saves me. Its very high. I've tested my theory on small scale in a glass of water. I can add all the minerals I want and the PH never raises, just the GH.

That's a gorgeous aquarium!
I'm going to be using the current 40g breeder tank I have once the remaining fish in it pass of old age (they're getting close).
I want to use moderately large stones and maybe use pond expanding foam to keep some stuck together or even create a rocky backdrop on the glass. I also want to incorporate vallisneria as according to my small amount of research, its indigenous to Lake Tanganyika. I'll have to see. Its going to take some time to truly form a solid plan.

Julidichromis are a lot of fun to watch.

They do seem interesting to watch! I can already tell that they have some similarities to gudgeons, just less aggressive.

Thank you!! I come on here often just to see what's going on briefly, but yeah, I haven't been active as much as I'd like.
Been very busy and any time I get to be on my device, I mainly use it to catch up with friends when I have the energy to or to research things involving my hobbies lol.
Sometimes I just dont have the mental energy to type stuff after my day or on a day off.
