What are you doing today?

This thread is hurting my brain. One conversation makes me think of what a spectacle a great operatic company must be.
The other makes me want to grab a bow and kill the wabbit.

That is AMAZING! Now you've got me reading about the strange and inspiring world of visually impaired archery...

And this:
“Singing is really about breath control and core strength – two things that are really integral to archery as well. I already had those two things. Singing and archery go really well together.”
SO TRUE! OK, I don't know how to compose opera, but I think this needs to happen. Who's with me?

I'm grumbling about TV commercials again. Sorry if I already posted about this but don't think that I did.

There is currently a TV ad about a bath tub/shower remodel that, in a big font, advertises no payment or interest for a year. In a MUCH smaller font under this is the notice that it is if paid in full within twelve months. The scam is that many people will put off payments believing that it doesn't matter. It gets to the point where the buyer has put off paying enough that they can no longer pay in full in the twelve months. If not paid within the twelve months interest is charged for the entire year even if some of the price has been paid. This basically is a loan for the cost of the remodel and the whole year's interest becomes part of what is due with the interest becoming part of the loan. If not totally paid in the first twelve months one could easily end up paying twice the original cost.

To me this is a ripoff and should not be allowed. It is a total scam and too many people fall for it.

You MAY, also, find this interesting...

What we need is an opera about archery.
There already is one. "William Tell" by Rossini, perhaps most famous for its overture which was used in many films and tv shows. It was used as the theme for "The Lone Ranger" among others.

"The William Tell opera, by Gioachino Rossini,
features legendary Swiss hero William Tell, a master crossbowman forced by Austrian tyranny to shoot an apple off his son's head, a famous scene symbolizing defiance and sparking rebellion for Swiss freedom, highlighting archery skills but also dramatic conflict, culminating in Tell's defiance and the famous 'Storm' music in the overture, making the crossbow and archery central to the plot and music."

Half a day of school before break! Led the entire k3 group in some carols today. Sometimes my job is pretty great. :santa:

But now I’m home and my mind turns to archery. Put a couple dozen arrows through this freak of nature. It looks funny but nothing wrong with the way it shoots! What a pleasant surprise. More bow pics? Ok.

Today I bought tickets to live stream from the Metropolitan Opera House (viewed at a local theater), l Puritani. The musical drama takes place during the English civil war when Cromwell rose to power. It’s an opera so of course the story line involves a Royalist falling in love with a Cromwell follower. Tears flow, but there is a happy ending. Lawrence Brownlee, a world renowned African American tenor will play Arturo, the loyalist. Soprano Lisette Oropesa, also an international star, will play Elvira, the Puritan. This is an extremely lyrical Bel Canto opera by Vincenzo Bellini. In fact it was his last opera before dying at the age of thirty four. This performance is a great introduction to opera so buy your tickets now. It may be live streaming to a theater near you on January 10.

I'm not buying tickets.

My favourite fish store has two shipments in, and I could spend my money for the next 3 months on what they have. But I don't feel like an 18 hour drive in winter, and shipping is suspect in this season.

While I'm generally happy with living in this small place, I do miss the many positives of living in the city sometimes.

Today I go across this small city/town to the same stores a lot of people here on the forum go to - costco and some corporate chains that have knocked off all local competition. It's convenient, but lacks that essential atmosphere. I like this time of year, as I try to put the Saturn back in Saturnalia. I look forward to the Christmas week. I've managed to do targeted shopping, browsing and dramatic crowd free, and I've avoided the worst of the Christmas songs. I'm thankful I don't work in retail. If I were an unretired High School teacher, this would be a half day of total mayhem. I'd crawl home disheveled and exhausted and plunk down by a colourfully lit tree. These days, I get to skip a stage there.

I've asked my Hoplisoma concolor for some eggs as a gift, and I've lined up a string of punk and loud guitar band recordings for my 4 hour drive to pick up my don't have cars grown up kids. Walking the dog in the darkness this morning, I could feel a storm coming, and the wind gusts are just starting to make some noise. So I guess that weather will be a bit like going in to work in a school would have been today. A little mayhem makes a day.

I keep trying, but I think you've got me there.

Another version of tone deafness - today I saw a photo of a tank with emergent plants on top. Plastic emergent plants.
Try selective arias. Here is one entitled Dido’s lament from the 17th century opera by Henry Purcell, Dido and Aeneas sung by super star Jessye Norman.

Part one of new computer upgrade: check mb has all parts (their packaging is getting trickier these days hiding the manual et all under a false bottom); install cpu; third party heat sink (probably not necessary for a fix clock cpu but i've used this brand before and it works really well); add the ram make sure the pcie cards will fit (have to use one of the vga slots since the mb only has 2 1 pcie cards and 2 full cards) and decide to wait till next week to screw it in the mb and power it up. Why do today what you can do tomorrow ?

I did manage to find a nifty little valve even if it is 100x more than any ol valve i've ever purchased but it is still nifty.
