Hi guys - new to this forum and to fishkeeping. We bought our first tank in January this year (2012). We bought a 30L BiOrb (not the round space helmet looking one). It has a rock base (not sand) and various ornaments and plastic plants. We have a heater and use the air filter that came with it.

We have 2 mollies and 4 neons.

See details below - want my tank to be fit and healthy. Not sure where this illness came from> The fish store?

Thanks for any advice.

DETAILS...

Tank size: 30L
pH: Neutral
ammonia: -
nitrite: 0.2 mg/L
nitrate: -
kH: -
gH: -
tank temp: 26 C

Fish Symptoms (include full description including lesion, color, location, fish behavior):
One Neon is very bloated. His back is mishapen. colours still vivid. Swims at strange angle.

Mollie looks to have something around his gills. Swims at 45 deg angle. Thin. Sometimes sits on bottom slightly curled up.

Volume and Frequency of water changes:
50% every week. 75% every month

Chemical Additives or Media in your tank:
No added chems. We do have live pond weed.

Tank inhabitants:
4 Neons. 2 Mollies

Recent additions to your tank (living or decoration):
Nothing recent

Exposure to chemicals:
No

Digital photo (include if possible):
See attached of Neon and Mollie

Do you have test results in ammonia, nitrate?
What brand name is the rest kit you are using?
Can you describe what you see around the gills. Do the gills look like they have cotton strands, cotton wool on gills.
Do the gills look red and inflamed?

I would preform an immediate water change with having a nitrite reading.
Don't feed the fish any dried foods for a few days.
Just feed some shelled peas.
For the bloated neon feed peas, epson salt baths to help draw the fluids out.
Add anti internal bacteria med by interpet.

Thanks WILDER

Don't have an Ammonia or Nitrate test unfortunately
Test for Nitrite levels is from NutraFin

Gills of Mollie look like cotton wool yes. No strands and doesn't really look red. Slightly inflamed though. See pic above.

Ok, thanks for advice too. I'll do a further full water change.
Also not add dry food for a few days.
I've put some shelled peas in although they havn't touched them since I have.

I'll get hold of some interpet meds too and see how they get on with that.

Many thanks for advice.
All the best
M

I looked at the mollie pic but thought it was a mark on the glass. Silly me.

How is the neon doing. Has the bloating gone down?
