My First Test Results

Hi chig, you've got to this very quick! It took me a while to get going :)

At this stage you should be testing every 24 hour hours. If, when you test ammonia is 0 then you can add ammonia afterwards. The only thing you need to bare in mind about when you test is that in the later stages of this fishless cycle you will need to do a test 12 hours after the addition of ammonia. But you don't need to worry about that at the moment, just pick a time earlier on or later on in the day is probably best. You could always change it if need be.

In this stage (first of three) your aim is to process that 5ppm of ammonia in 24 hours. Once you're doing that, i'll tell you the next stage ;)

I take it today has been your first addition of ammonia? Was the test before or after adding ammonia ?

There isn't anything I don't think Simon doesn't know about fishless cycling. He's helping me a lot with mine. Trust his judgment and you won't go wrong.

His advice is always sound and spot on. (not suggesting other people's aren't)

haha, theres lots I don't know  I just copy and paste waterdrop and oldman47! (I don't really! not quite...)

I read about the biomature, it didn't say it had ammonia in so I got confused...

Can you just help me in easy steps that i can follow so i can end up keeping fish :( i keep getting different adivce and its bloody confusing  , I have fish food and Biomature which is 90% Ammonia.

You shouldn't put yourself down. A 70 day tank cycle is experience enough !! and it's really nice that you go out of your way to give others the benefit of that experience.

I can try... It is confusing and I was in the exact same stage as you a couple of months ago.

If you havn't already found ryefish's fishless blog, I recommend you do. I've never used biomature but if it worked for him/her then just go with their advise.

It will be essentially the same as what I said a few posts back.

Oh and btw...if biomature already has ammonia in why are you adding fish food? it'll just make readings confusing (which they are because you have 2ppm of nitrite from nowhere?)

Thanks :p

Because everyone just keeps telling me different all the time, People tell me to add fish food , other say biomature , others say buy ammonia. Im only young :( . I started off with fish food and then i got given this so i added a drop then i got told not to use it so i went back to fish food which i added today and ive only just started testing.

This does confuse me, the main method on here from my time here anyway, is ammonia bottles.

I've seen biomature used once with ryefish but it never made much sense to me at the time (that was 1-2 months ago though..)

I think if it worked for ryefish it could work for you so if you want to use that method, use that method.

I looked at the fish food method too before starting my cycle but read that it's an incredibly slow and inaccurate process.

I thought ryefish gave up on it?

haha no, i went fish-in after 40-something days because i had issues with my filter and the very very last part of my cycle. The ammonia and nitrites were clearing some days but then not another, it was just bouncing around and annoying as hell lol.

i saw the biomature as nothing other than ammonia (no fast cycle or bacteria in a bottle or any lark like that) and it worked for me ;)

P.s: im a 'she' :p

Right... ill try and get my hands on a bottle of Ammonia , did you say boots sell it?

So like i was first saying do i test again tomorrow at 5 ? and if i have the same results then add some ammonia to my tank.

Chig I just said to use the biomature if you're comfortable with it why are you changing your mind now

I know you cycled cos I read your planted blog! I just remember reading biomature at the start but not at the end so for some reason thought you were using ammonia instead and haha, I'll remember :p

Well tbh i dont no what to use! i just need help what i should do now ive tested and had my results

Well you need to pick one...otherwise we can't advise what to do!

Is your tap water 0 ammonia 0 nitrite ?

I don't understand why 2ppm of nitrite are showing up already..shouldn't be happening.
