My First Test Results

Just read the fish in cycle guide and it says doing 50% water changes daily until it finally goes down, I might just do that and first of all just buy 4 guppies?

The Guppies won't survive the cycling of the tank !! they need a good established aquarium in order to thrive.

harlequins he hasn't even started yet how could he be going through a spike? I'm a little confused here because you shouldn't have 2ppm of nitrite on your first day of adding fish food/biomature

From what i gather its not his first day of adding food and he's had mature media put in his filter also....
Ammonia is the first to show followed by nitrites-then surely something is working...

And showing 10ppm nitrate...unless thats from the tap?

Have you tested your tap water chig?

Ive got media in my filter that someone gave me, and ive added fish food for at least 4 days and also bio-mature ( and please dont moan about that again lol) and no i haven't tested my tap water normally.

and no 10ppm is from the tank

Try testing the tap water for ammonia/nitrite & nitrate - then you know where you stand...

My nitrate from the tap is 10ppm...

I was waiting for you to answer that question too so best go test your tap water

The biomature is fine..its better than adding fish food imo.

I'm personally not sure where your cycle is at as I haven't seen daily test results for the week you have been cycling. With only one set it's hard to tell what's caused the Nitrite reading. Using bottled bacteria messed my readings up a bit and gave me Nitrite readings but no Ammonia had been processed. Not saying that's what's happened, but without other test results i's hard to say for me personally.

Hmm i have to agree with you liverbird, its early days and with no previous test results,we can only go by the what the op says.

I looking at the results at the moment and with mature media,it would look good.and seems has though its going through a spike...

But thinking about the first and only time i used cycle it messed everything up.
I don't know much about biomature to comment, but i have done a fishless cycle and it can be so slow, but worth it in the end..

I was using Filter Start at the beginning of my cycling, and the results showed zero ammonia but nitrites of 0.25ppm. I ended up with a gunky tank so had to start the cycle over again but once i stopped the filter start the results went back to normal

Hmm well thats probably where you nitrate is coming from...

This sort of changes things now...

Has mentioned your nitrite is coming from somewhere...

You best bet is to get that bottled ammonia, dose the tank and see if ammonia tests zero after 24hrs,if your ammonia is processing to nitrite then alls good,if not then your still at the beginning of your fishless, and dont attempt to put guppies in...

Spot on advice. Post the test results you do tomorrow too.

Well i added ammonia at about 6? so should i test tomorrow same time, as that will be 24 hours?

when i say ammonia i mean i added Biomature.

Yes that's correct. you don't need to add anymore ammonia for 24hrs. Post your results so everyone can get an idea what's going on.
