My First Test Results

LOL, my bad m8... I thought you were trying to say that they work which I HIGHLY doubt.
Maybe one way to prove it is get one of the "miracle bacteria bottles" and stick the contents under an electron microscope! :)
I have heard of people saying that those products are not supposed to do your cycle for you but "seed" it with the proper bacteria. I say... isnt the same bacteria in tap water but probably in higher concentrations because it was'nt sitting bottled up for months at a time in an airtight container!?!?

It isnt bottled bacteria lol. I have the "bottled bacteria" here still, UNOPENED. The Biomature is just ammonia. It may say it quickens up a cycle, but it doesnt say it is in instant cycle, and tbh it doesnt really quicken it up that much lol. If you use it with the intention of cycling normally and using it as ammonia, then there is no issue whatsoever.

Im not saying it has bacteria living in there, but it definately has ammonia. The fact thati cycled my tank with it, and the fact that my water stats are perfect should say enough on this

Problem with that is twofold:
1) The bacteria isn't in tapwater due to the chlorine, if it was, we wouldn't have to use dechlorinator.
2) Heterotrophic bacteria can actually survive being in a bottle for months, although not 100%. But problem is then, they are the wrong type of bacteria that generally consume sludge and what not, so once again, are completely useless.

If there is NO bacteria whatsoever in your tap, then HOW do you ever get a cycle started??
The bacteria in the air lands in the water and multiplies??
Yes, the chlorine in tap water is there to kill bacteria but there is NO WAY it kills it all.

My bad, I thought this Biomature was what Cycle and BioSpira claims to be. So if Biomatur is nothing but ammonia why would you spend your hard earned cash on it when you can just get ammonia called "ammonia".. Is it cheaper?

i have no idea what you are talking about Slypolak, and this is going a little bit off topic.

Chigwellhammer has some mature media, and a bottle of ammonia - what form that is in it doesnt matter aslong as it works, which it does. He has put the media into his filter, dosed with ammonia, and tested and got the results posted on the first page. Which to me, says his cycle has had a good kick start.

The rest is irrelevant.

ETA: It is Waterlife's Bacterlife that claims to be the "bacteria in a bottle" :p which is why i didn't send it lol. And.. a bottle of ammonia from Boots is cheaper, but i didnt see the point in it going to waste

Well then I am wrong, and so are a few mods on here that gave me the previous info.... I still think there is NO WAY that the amount of chlorine they put in the tap will kill all the bacteria...impossible

Oh, im not trying to say Chigwellhammer is not doing things right...

You lot still having your mothers meeting? lol, Ill test my tank after the footy :)

Just tested again :)

First test ( This morning 9am)
P.H - 7.6
Ammonia - 0 ppm
Nitrite - 2.0 ppm
Nitrate - 10 ppm

Second Test ( Just now )
PH - 7.6
Ammonia - 0 ppm
Nitrite - 2.0 ppm
Nitrate - 10 ppm

So do i now add my Ammonia 9am tomorrow morning like i did today and then test again 5pm in the afternoon like i did also today?

Hi chig, you've got to this very quick! It took me a while to get going :)

At this stage you should be testing every 24 hour hours. If, when you test ammonia is 0 then you can add ammonia afterwards. The only thing you need to bare in mind about when you test is that in the later stages of this fishless cycle you will need to do a test 12 hours after the addition of ammonia. But you don't need to worry about that at the moment, just pick a time earlier on or later on in the day is probably best. You could always change it if need be.

In this stage (first of three) your aim is to process that 5ppm of ammonia in 24 hours. Once you're doing that, i'll tell you the next stage ;)

I take it today has been your first addition of ammonia? Was the test before or after adding ammonia ?

Hey thanks for the response Simon :)

Um I added Fish food at 9am this morning and then did my 2nd test at 5pm

fish food?

Why not go to boots?

get:

- ammonia
- go to medicine counter and ask for 1ml and/or 5ml plastic syringe

Then you can dose ammmonia much more accurately, effectively and reliably :good:

will only cost 2 quid :) and you won't be waiting for fish food to degrade!

Oh yeah ive got biomature :) , but everyone keeps telling me different so i get confused!

Biomature isn't a source of ammonia and fish food isn't at all a good source of ammonia

ammonia will be quicker because you can add ammonia straight to the tank rather than waiting on fish food to degrade into ammonia

imo if you want the best help of this forum adding ammonia from the bottle is the best way, its what the mods advise but obviously you can do what you want but I can't help you with the fish food stuff

best of luck

I got given it by Ryefish who used it to cycle her tank fine, Its got 90% ammonia i believe.
