How Do You Justify Spending £20 On A Piece Of Wood?

Yeah I saw that piece, and you're right it'd make a lovely tree shape.

But in my tank I have an oversized external filter, so NO part of the surface of my water is 'still'.
So I was wanting something that reachs up and pokes out of the water a bit. That, coupled with lots of java fern 'leaves' should hopefully disrupt the flow enough to give my floating plants a fight chance at getting established in that top right corner.

Atm unless I let the cabomba go crazy my floating plants just get pushed around the tank and eventually get munched by the filter. :(

How do we justify most things in the hobby ? probably because of our love of it and the obsession it can become. You have seen that sumatran driftwood, and now you know you will buy it.

 :good:

Well I bought it :shifty:

I figured I could justify it in the sense that I have a few fishy things that need selling. So it hopefully wont be quite as much as it could've been. And I needed some AE liquid carbon at some point anyways...so combining postage is a plus.

I'll just not mention the price to my boyfriend...he doesn't understand.

20 pounds
hehe i never brought a peice of wood yet,
Ive been very lucky and got all mine free, and a nice 3foot peice of oak branch in my 5ft which fell of my mums oak tree, hehe

Ahum... we spend quite a bit more for the wood that we got for our tank... *shrug* It's only money. ;)

Yeah but this week I have now bought...
Some amazon frogbit
Java ferns
Wood
Liquid Carbon
A 20W Hagen Power-Glo light bulb
2 x Arcadia light reflectors

I have also paid for a driving test...

 My poor bank card...

agreed with you,its a costly hobbie, hehe

I paid more for my big filter , what i paid for my tank/heater/four light starter motors/four light tubes and a previous filter was cheaper than this filter alone, so imagine family members faces when i brought it

I paid £150 for an Eheim 2075 then £55 for Arcadia T5 twin controller £9 each for reflectors and about £15 for tubes. That's on top of car insurance, breakdown recovery renewal, council tax, rent, replacement rear brakes for car and very shortly a week away in the lake district! I am least hoping I'll find some suitable free wood up there...

And that's all been done in the course of two months. Ouch.

I'm always amused by how I can justify spending money on things like tanks, filters, cameras, snowboards and the like but I grumble and complain about having to buy shoes, clothes and other essentials. :good:

Lol, how very 'male'

To be fair to my spending, I haven't spent much on the fish for the past couple of months, and this was all 'neccesary stuff' hehe. :D

agreed with you,its a costly hobbie, hehe

You think fishkeeping is costly - you should have seen the amount my huby used to spend on his bike before he crashed! We recently had a conversation where he said he wanted 1 bike for every fishtank I have, and that the bikes he wanted would cost about £5k! I said that even if I had a 300l in every room of our house it wouldn't come close to costing that much! lol.

But I totally understand the justifying the cost thing - I am currently wondering if I can justify £20 on plastic/silk plants: about 3 large ones to replace very old and brittle ones in my Rio and some smaller ones to go in my QT when it's ready. I know I can afford it, but that doesn't mean I should go crazy...
