Hi, i am thinking of getting a dwarf puffer for 5-6 gal tank, i know that he/she needs live foods so am looking into it, i want to know if i can use the live bloodworms from my water but, and if ther is any way i can breed these inside?, also i know they need snails for their teeth, how do i go about this, can i buy small live snails or is it best to get the ones out of my biorb when my puffer needs them, is there any way i can breed these simply and cheeply as well, oh and one last thing, does anyone know if dp like brineshrimp???

thanks in advance

Well Dp are very picky. Im lucky that mine will each frozen bloodworms. I use an eye dropper and suck them up after defrosting in water and then hold above the tank, they will come and peck at the food and dropper. Its fun to watch him. Mine wont eat bring shrimp but I have heard stores that alot wont. As for snails I grab them for free at mt LFS and just toss them inside. my Dp just eats them, he dosent eat the shell but he is still fine after a few months.

thanks for your reply, do you know if i can breed the bloodworm easily in like a plastic tub inside?

how much is it for the frozen bloodworm, and how much will 1 dp eat daily?

thanks dude, does any one know how i can breed the small snails and bloodworm , and or if it is safe to feed them to my fish if they are from my water but

snail is easy. Toss in a tank and let them breed. Of course it should be cycled but they dont need much, toss ant food in and they will eat. If you want some out fish for them or toss some veggie in there. they will climb onto it and you can then remove it.

Of course not the same tank as the puffer since he would eat them all before they would breed.

thanks for all your help m8, i have a snail infestaion in my biorb, there must be about 20 snails in there so ill put the veg in and do it that way

Bloodworms...no. They're aquatic larva of flying insects. Potential big mess.

Snails are easy to breed. Get a 5+ gal tank, throw in some pond snails with the occasional vegetable slice or sinking pellet/wafer and you're golden. Overfeed the tank a little, keep up water changes, and watch them put rabbits to shame.

you want some snails i got lots and lots of ramshorns they breed like rabbits i could offer you 40+ snails for £3 posted in your in the UK

also got pond snails if you wanted a mix

sounds good, but im just looking into getting dp, want to make sure i can look after them properly before i get some, it will prob be my bday in may when i set it up, so i will contact you in a while, how would i pay you btw?

most LFS will give them away for free, I get myself a dozen when I drop by. There pest so they have no real reason to charge.
