Can anyone suggest a good, reputable, online company to order fish from? I am wanting to purchase some new fish to add to my 20 gal tank and turn it into a community tank like I've been wanting to do for over a year.

Where I live, we only have 1 store to purchase fish from and that is PetCo. I have purchased countless fish from PetCo over the past 3 years (this is how long I've had aquariums) and all but 1 fish has died over the years. I have purchased cory catfish, different kinds of mollies, and platies from PetCo. I can't tell you how many I have purchased in 3 years, but I can tell you that I only have 1 male Dalmatian Molly alive that I have purchased. The fish I get from PetCo all look and act healthy and are just fine for a few months, then they get sick and die. They are fine one day, the next day, they are not swimming normally and usually die within a couple days after that. So, I am done purchasing my fish from our local PetCo. I would love to order an algae eating fish and some guppies, danios, or another type of fish that are good tank mates with Mollies.

I currently have 2 adult Mollies in a 20 gal tank with no live plants. One adult male Dalmatian Molly that was purchased a few months ago and 1 adult female platy/molly that was born and raised in my tank. I will be purchasing some live plants here soon. The tank used to have lots of plants, but I had to remove all plants to deal with a really bad algae takeover. If anyone has a good suggestion of what company to get live plants from as well, that would be great.

I would love to have my 20 gal be a community tank. I live in Fairbanks, AK, so the company would have to be willing to ship to AK. I know shipping prices will be high, but I'm willing to give this a try. I can't buy any more fish from my local PetCo, have them live for a few months in my tank, and then have them die. My son gets attached to the fish and it breaks his heart every time a fish dies.

Any suggestions of good companies would be greatly appreciated.

Many of us buy from The WetSpot, which is in the Pacific Northwest and is, to my knowledge, the closest to you:

https:/www.wetspottropicalfish.com

They have a massive inventory which they update every Friday evening. I've been doing business with them for decades and have no complaints.

Do most US online sellers have a flat rate for shipping, or is it by distance?

Varies by seller. But few ship to Alaska.
