Are Your Fish Costing You?

Since 1970, I have stopped breeding/keeping fish 3 times... (on average) for about 6 months at a time and every time selling all fish related items I have for next to nothing... (I once sold 150 fully equipped tanks in stands for R150) (i.e. R1 per tank - which now equates to about .08cents (BP) per tank.

When I restart again... I would buy one 24" tank and a little breeding tank, and that would be the last of my expenses.... from there on, a stock exchange arrangement with my LFS would keep my fish alive (foods) and expand my hobby (heaters, tanks, filters etc.) to the extent that I currently have 40 fully equipped tanks, (only have 17 running at this stage though)... mainly because I have moved to a "village" where there is only one pet shop, and I'm getting lazy to market my produce.

No cash exchange takes place, I provide the fish, and they write up what they owe me (equivantly well below market price) and from time to time... I just collect from them foods, equipment and/or additional fish.

My fish steal my wallet and run around with it within a 40 mile radius. The middle section of my filter is actually stuffed with £20 notes the large surface area is great for growing bacteria on.

However my Kribensis are finally starting to breed a lot, and in about 6 months I should have a steady supply of Young Kribensis that I can sell to surrounding FS.

Yep!!.. Kribs are a good provider... they are in demand!

Fish stores around here are very reasonable and have deals like 5 for 5 dollars, and Gouramis for 2.49 each. But I wanted a Albino Bristlenose pleco and just couldn't find one around here so I ordered one online 5.99 PLUS 34.99 shipping. But hopefully it'll be worth it, eventually I'd like to try and get a few more and try and breed them as I like them so much and I' sure the local LFS with buy them,

Kribensis round my area are pretty rare. There is only one shop bout an hour drive away from me that carries them. So, I bet if I introduce Kribensis to these other fish stores that don't carry them right now; I feel that it may have a very good success at selling them!

I mean, it's pretty much what the fish look like that make people buy them, and Kribensis are VERY colorful!

Right now my fish are costing me a ton of money in having to buy equipment. Once I get those things bought though it won't be bad at all. Well actaully it prob won't stop I never seem to be happy with what I have I just keep getting more and more

Oh yeah this is an expensive hobby. I do have some Cory cat fry but not enough to make up for all the money I have spent on fish stuff.

Well!... it is not an overnight kill, but patience forms a big part of it.... until you get your 2nd & 3rd tanks (paid for by the fish)... it goes a lot smoother.

If a person could just get one tank stock it and be happy and stop there it would not be an expensive hobby at all. But if you get like we are it never stops at just one or two or three.........

Yes!!... & it is only there, that it starts paying for itself!... when you get to around 5 tanks plus!
