Cherry coffee table in the works. Before anybody says the base is ugly, thats just the table top resting on my work bench/not in use fish tank stand.

I'm amazed you could find 3 boards straight and flat enough to use for a table, everything available here has to be planed or milled to dimension. And they still charge full price for it.

The lumber yard near my house is awesome. There are some warped boards there, but I get to search through their full stock to find the pieces that I want. The vast majority of their stock is excellent.

Today I’m going to get more wingless fruit fly cultures going . The house is staying warmer now and this makes the cultures more active and hence less long lived . In winter a culture might produce for a month but in the heat of summer they can only last for two weeks . The life cycle of these flies is interesting to watch . Light has an effect on them too . The room they’re in is brighter longer now and that is helping production . Live wingless fruit flies are a favorite live food of almost all my fish and sometimes it’s hard to keep enough on hand but they are very easy to raise .

My 30 wild caught Boraras brigittae arrived from the Wet Spot today. They all survived the journey. Of course they are pale, but this is to be expected after the stress of being shipped. They are in a 20 gallon long dedicated quarantine tank for the next 6 weeks. At the Wet Spot they were living in soft water with a GH of 32 ppm. The quarantine tank water has a GH of 50 ppm so the fish should be comfortable.

Yes portland has the best water ever - well almost as good as seattle; Wet Spot actually hardens their water just a little for people like you !

Started cleaning up the garden spot a little bit today . I filled the trash thing with heavy fibrous sunflower remnants . Those don’t biodegrade away so well and I left them over winter for the mice and birds . Now the planning begins . That’s the fun part . I’ll have squash this year but beyond that I’m not completely decided .
