What are you doing today?

Of course, like normal, I'm fighting with my cockatiel from Hades. ;) Today I think that I MAY have a minor victory. If remembered, quite a while back, I posted about His Highness refusing to have anything to do with a small 'playground' I got for him. I had the playground on top of his pent house (cage) and he would have nothing to do with it as he is a rescue bird that is VERY protective of the cage and territorial where the cage is concerned.

I was going to just throw the thing out but decided to try one more ploy. I put the playground on the floor in an area that I normally don't go unless working on my main computer. When the playground was on top of the cage I think he may have seen it as an intrusion on his territory Putting the thing on the floor and away from his cage seems like he no longer sees it as a threat. Got him out of his cage and 5 minutes later here is the result. :) Will it last? I have no idea but it looks possible. Oh, the purple accent is due to my accent lights. What can I say? I happen to like blues and purples. ;) And, YES, I like teddy bears. LOL! Wanna make something of it? ;)

I thought you did that about a month ago according to a past post. Try now putting it back on top of his cage and see if he will use it now in that location.

Ya, I put it on my dining table a while back and he used a little. I DID put back on top of his cage and, once again, he ignored other than to attack from the bottom. He just does not seem to like the thing on top of his pent house as I believe he sees it as an intrusion.

It has to be remembered that this is a rescue bird to a large extent and is, while gradually improving, still rather cage bound and treats his cage as his safe area.

To go back in history it must be understood that this bird was not even close to being treated properly. I'm not saying that he was physically abused but there are other forms of abuse. He had a bonded mate that died. I can't prove but I believe that she died from being egg bound. I base that on his taking a month to discover that a Cuttlefish bone bone was something to nibble.

We fight and argue but basically get along and, once out of his cage, he is totally different and mostly friendly.

We're getting brushed by the hurricane that did so much harm in Cuba and Jamaica. Since I can see the water from here, I expect we'll have a lot of rain, but also high gusts tomorrow - just enough to throw some Hallowe'en decorations around. I just did the rounds around the house and picked up anything that could fly off, and will have to go out and harvest the red leaves off my red oak, sooner than I wanted to.

I don't have decorations out - sandwiched between two graveyards with a long dark driveway up the house, no one comes here. We may be north of Maine, but there's still a Stephen King vibe to this place.

When life gives you lemons (ignoring that humans created lemons), you make orange juice, or something like that. My Cory tanks are going to get cold water changes later this afternoon or this evening, to see if the expected air pressure changes fool the fish into thinking the rainy season is here. I might get some eggs. Hope so.

The sea will be spectacular, with good sized breakers at the beach. No doubt, someone will park a car too close and have to be rescued (tourists....) and the choice of decorative rocks on the beach will be radically refreshed.

Busy doing my preps for next weekend vivaristic event "Vivarium 2025". Europe's largest vivaristc event. That's gonna be a weekend with less rest nor sleep. Fortunately, I already have a serious number of reserevations on fish. Just one reservation for a Dutch visitor and all the rest are for foreign visitors.

Did you ever have a bow break when at max pull and have your hand hit you in the face?

Not yet, no. I've had a couple of bows break on the tillering tree, which makes a pretty spectacular kaboom. I've only had one break at full draw, and it gave me a nice "TICK" noise to let me know it was about to let go, so I was able to let it down and unstring it before it broke all the way.

(Don't believe what you see in the movies, where bows always make a dramatic creaking sound when drawn. When a real bow makes any sound at all during the draw, it usually means something very, very bad is about to happen)

A bow coming apart at full draw is a bowyer's nightmare because the flying bits of wood are probably going to hit you in the face. The hand slap is the least of your problems. It's one of the reasons I tend to back bows that are the slightest bit questionable. The rawhide or sinew keeps them from exploding.

All I’m doing is sitting here enjoying the view out my living room window from my recliner . This is a pretty nice day for November 1st . Last week being the last week of Daylight Savings Time I set a goal of running 40 miles and I made it with a ten miler last Sunday . It may have been pushing it just a hair because I’m tired today but I know what I can do now . My best month ever too . I ran 156 miles in October .

I have 20 juvenile a. cacatuoides that have grown too large to remind all together in their breeding tank. I had to separate them in groups of four into several other tanks. The group has not colored up yet so it is too early to sell them to my lfs. I think I may have more females than males. Bummer!

You sure are the Apistogramma breeder ! That’s great ! Such problems to have .

Whenever I see a bow, I remember my childhood friend Phil getting nervous with one, unsupervised of course, and firing the arrow into the muscle under his thumb. Ouch moments.
His Dad, the local pastor, only had one eye from a childhood bb gun incident. It must have run in the family.
The other local animals must have enjoyed seeing that family go out hunting.

The ocean is blue and the sky pink and orange and sunrise this morning. For the first time this season, I can see leafless trees silhouetted against the light - we've had three days of steady hard winds and the leaves are gone. I saved a fine collection of oak leaves though.

I’m going to a funeral today. My cousin’s mother in law passed on to the other side at the age of 99. She was a high energy, optimist who found good in everything and everyone. Bev was an actress and founded a local theatre troupe. She will be missed.

After Constantino's death, I remained reflective for a few days. I do not know if I did right, but I have bought a male Trichogaster chuna. Maybe a couple did well, but I am not certain about that, and I am afraid that a conflict could happen, and then I have to return the fish to the shop...

He ate ALL the Aedes aegypti larvae that my tank had. He seemed a little timid yet, while curious and sometimes coming up to the aquarium front to look at me. I still do not know if he will eat the fish food I still have. Yesterday I gave him a little male Artemia franciscana (and he ate it). Since he is much more agitated than my Betta (although it is said that this species is considered a slow one), it is far harder to take pictures, but I have tried. I still do not know what name to give him.

I have finished reading "A nação mercantilista" and "Bahian Society in the Mid-Colonial Period: The Sugar Planters, Tobacco Growers, Merchants, and Artisans of Salvador and the Recôncavo, 1680–1725", but several questions still arise about what happened to cause Brazil's economic stagnation in the 19th century. For that reason, I started to read also the book "Underdevelopment and development in Brazil", while I am also looking for Volume II from the same author and work.

Moon, I took a picture. It may be used for a good romantic date, don't you agree?

I always wonder how people can date through Instagram (and book a first date). That thing does not seem to make so much sense to me. You'll never find out what the other person is doing, and it may get you anxious because you always have to think that the problem is you and not him (or her, in my case). For me, it would be far better if these things could happen personally and/or by love letters, as it used to be in my great-grandfather's youth, apparently.
