Weather

Weather Channel keeps on upping the ante on this storm which will span a 2K mile swath from New Mexico to Maine. Now calling for 12'" to 18" of snow in NYC. Stay safe everyone.

It does look bad for south of here. We'll get a little, maybe 15-20 cm. And we'll have a week in the teens below zero. But nothing like what poor @Magnum Man and his cows are facing. We'll all be in the frostbite zone for a bit - take care of yourselves and the tropical fish. And any cows.

well, -25 actual... -36 windchill, and the furnace must be carboned up again, as it's blowing, but not heating... so, the fireplace is roaring, clothes dryer is blowing into the house, and a couple room electrics running( and of coarse the aquarium radiant heating... 100 year old farm house is at 60 degrees, and waiting for the service tech...

As I said, TWC continues to up the ante. The new headline:

If this arrives as predicted - have styrofoam on hand. Box in your tank, even underneath if you have a stand that exposes the bottom glass. You can also go to a dollar store (here we can) and get a space blanket. Be ready to cover the tank immediately if power breaks down.
If you don't have an alternative heating source, things will go wrong quickly if the house chills down.

Even towels and blankets can buy time. A total loss of home heating is what it is - a serious issue for tropical fish (and people). You may be able to get away with 2 to 3 days if you act quickly.

We are expected to get snow followed by freezing rain, followed by rain, followed by more snow. I'm really really praying the power doesn't go out.

Looks like our forcast the high is suppose to be 28 with 90% of freezing rain - those a few mile north are suppose to get the snow so only time will tell after all the bulk of noaa staff was fired earlier this year.

A couple of hours later the high for saturday is forcasted to 24 and 8 inch of snow - i wonder what they will forcast for saturday on sunday.

Meanwhile , here in south central Montana , we did finally get a little dusting of dry powdery snow and it did cool off to an even zero degrees Fahrenheit . It shall remain cold until Monday when we’re right back up in the low 40’s again . Once again we have skirted the storm on its edge and came away largely unscathed .

Pretty much the same here in Sheridan.

uhhh... furnace is blowing cold air again... looks like the temporary fix for the furnace didn't even last one day... the burners are worn out, and putting too much heat backwards an tripping a switch... they didn't tell me how to reset it, before they left... new burners won't be in until later next week... not good
