so I just got a top fin 1.7 gallon tank from petsmart and the water pump has a switch for plus and minus I was wondering what that does because im not use to that kind

I believe moving the switch towards the plus would increase the water flow, towards the minus would decrease flow.

Do you really mean a 1.7 gallon aquarium? That's 6.4 litres. I didn't know they were made that small.

If it really is that size, what do you intend keeping in it, I can't think of anything suitable for that sized tank

I was just going to post the very same thing!

It would be okay for a few shrimps and/or snails, in which case you definitely want the filter on it's slowest setting and perhaps even put some fine mesh or sponge over the intake, although you can leave it on a higher setting while you cycle.

What were you planning on putting in it?
