The Conversion Has Begun...

Well if you took out the carbon, you could cut down some foam to fit in the carbon's place.

I know you really want to, but honestly unless your kh is really low you don't need crushed coral. If you do decide to add it though, you'll need to put it in a filter bag (a mesh bag) first so it doesn't get loose and ruin your impeller.

Haha, It's just everyone is asking about buffering theirs up, thought I might want to

Ceramic rings and an extra foam it is then :good:

Thanks alot, the help was needed

Hey guys, just a quick update;

Got all my new filter media, which is a good start

And I was hoping to get my rockwork some time this week, but my friend who takes
me in, has been housesitting lol

So hopefully some time in the next week/s :good:

Oh!

And one last thing, I finally ordered a batch of Demansoni (spelling lol?!) in at work,

So I was wondering if it's only one to a tank? or probably a group of 5 to spread the aggression? I dont have a clue lol

I'll be picking that/them up tomorrow along with two more cobalts and three more labs B)

Thanks in advance,

Maximus

With demasoni, the magic numbers are either a single specimen, or 12+. Any smaller group and one will kill off the others.

Really?

I thought that would be the case :grr:

ah well, one's good enough

He's not gonna cause chaos is he?

Or is that only to other demasoni?

Thanks again dude :good:

Maximus

Nah, demasoni are actually farily peaceful to other fish, except ones that look like them (blue with dark stripes).

Hey, I know this shouldn't have happened, but I got myself a new fish about a week ago...

The problem is I'm not sure what it is

It was brought back from a customer closing down there tank, which was mbuna, so,

Here's some pictures for all you gurus out there, please help me with this one :good:

He's been fine in the tank so far, so all seems good

I am getting better at choosing my fish tho  , as I asked about the demasoni!

Oh, here we are:

Dont take it as gospel, but as far as i can tell it looks like a metraclima zebra of some sort.

Metriaclima zebra (Liuli)
Metriaclima zebra (Lundu)

Are my two best guesses, although only wild caught shots are available. Maybe im barking up the wrong tree but:
Metriaclima sp. "Black Dorsal Heteropictus"
http://www.cichlid-forum.com/profiles/species.php?id=782

Seems even closer to the money, I dont think he is showing his full colour yet.

Hope these ideas dont lead you astray

Thanks for that dude :good:

If it's not one of them, your definately going in the right direction

Anyone else have a opinion on this?

It would be appreciated :good:

Thanks again,

Maximus

That's a Pseudotropheus Kingsizei. Nice fish - stay quite small but are fairly aggressive and can hold their own in an Mbuna community. :good:

Cheers for that Ferris :good:

Its an awesome fish, no agression as of yet, but I expect it soon :/

I got myself a demasoni today too!

He's about an inch long, but still got an attitude :p

I also got another "hybrid", this time the size of my largest, but still a strong purple, so assuming a female there

I also got two more fish, I'll post pictures soon enough, that were in the same tank as cobalt blues, but there was only the two of them.

They look just like them, but have thin green bands accros the face and down the body.

Just a quick question though, when introducing new fish to the tank, is it normal for the alfa male to chase off all the new comers?

I'm hopefully getting my rockwork very soon, so this will cut stress down alot :good:

Thanks again,

Maximus

Thanks for the correction Ferris, I had alot of trouble with the banding patterns: As usual your bang on.

Max, Just out of interest did you have the lights off for a bit of time before adding the new fish? Usually i find this helps eliminate aggression until the new arrivals stress down. Without rocks your gonna have a few probs: Nowhere to run nowhere to hide means that a boisterous male is gonna have free potshots at all your new few. All I can suggest is until you get your rockwork(ASAP) try and use feeding to curb the aggression somewhat.

Hope It works out :good: , the new fish sound good.

Thanks for that Xebadir :good:

No, I didn't use the lighting method, but I did feed straight after adding them, which made the dom
male forget about them for a while.

Just lifted the bin bag up this afternoon (check other thred) to have a look, and all is calm

I'll be taking the bags off this thursday morning, and hopefully getting my rockwork very soon :)

Thanks for the concern, I'll update with pictures when I get the rocks in there.

Oh, that reminds me, when choosing rocks at the garden centre, what do I have to look out for
So as not to put in my tank?

Thanks in advance,

Maximus

You'll want to stay away from any rocks that have obvious metal deposits, any that look like they have rust on them (a good sign of metal), and anything that has a tendency to flake (not harmful, but makes a big mess). Other than that, you can use just about anything, limestone is especially good as it will help buffer your water.
