Hi, I got myself a Tetra EX 1200 two days ago and for the first day it was all good. However the next day it's making a really loud humming sound which is driving me and my family crazy. It sounds like the kind of hum you would get from a cheap air pump. So I consulted the manual and it suggested that I should check the impeller for any debris or damage (which there wasn't), reassemble and restart unit and to shake the unit side to side to get rid of any trapped air. After I shook the unit it ended up leaking from the top where one of the clasps are so not only is it noisy, it's now leaky. So I consulted the manual again and it said that I should remove the O ring and use Vaseline to lubricate the ring and the area (made you giggle), but still to no avail. I think I will have to contact Tetra and ask them :/

Before I do though I thought I'd ask you guys if you have had any similar problems with your filters and if so how did you managed to rectify the problem?

Thanks

Dan

i think you just have a duff unit... i cant fault mine...

All 3 of mine are faultless Dan. Bit of a trek mate, but if you fancy a drive up to my house in Notts i have a spare motor head that you're welcome to. :good:

That's really sound of you mate but I don't drive :/ Thanks anyways, again that's really good of you to offer :)

Shame. :/

If you phone TetraTEC on 00800 76688766 you will get through to probably the best customer service team available and will be happy to issue new parts which will probably be a new complete motor head. Will take between a week and a fortnight though to get to you as they're based in Germany, but you will be looked after very very well.

Might be no need to phone them yet Minnt, if the unit is only 2 days old then retailer should exhange it for a new one. Be a bit quicker than the two week wait.

Cheers guys, I'll get ringing round on tues and see what the best option is. Thanks again :)

Possibly yes if the LFS or where ever you purchased it from is feeling particularly generous. :D The warranty lies with Tetra rather than the seller.

I bought it from a store on eBay but I'm pretty sure it's a high street store to. The only thing I was worried about was having to pay P&P to get it back to them as it's not particularly light :/

Contract is with retailer - means they are liable for any unfit goods (Sale of goods Act) warrenties are just an insurance policy if it develops a fault after a reasonable period of time (thats why they always say does not effect your statutory rights). Also if you bought from an ebay store then you have extra protection as it'll be covered by the distance selling regulations (get a week to return goods for a no quibble guarentee and the buyer should not be out of pocket in any way - so the seller should pay any return costs especially if its for a fault, if they don't play ball I'd register a claim under the paypal guarentee rules too)

Either way contact the seller and explain whats happened and any retailer worth their salt should refund/exchange the filter without you being out of pocket. Always helps to know your consumer rights in these cases :good:

Edit - I collated some hints and tips about consumer rights last year for this thread

Just looking to reiterate the comments regarding the service being with the retailer. If purchased from a business, said business is responsible for repair or replacement. Within the first 6 months its the retailers responsibility to prove that the unit was NOT faulty but misused should a problem occur. After 6 months its the consumers responsibility to do so but you are still covered by warranty.

Cheers for all the help peoples, I'll be contacting the seller after the holiday period to try sort things out and with a little extra confidence on my part to ;)

Cheers

Dan
