Some Ideas Please New Tank

Right i have a new tank (Juwel Delta 100) 150l and have some plans for it when i get it set up in the next month or so,
the filter is the juwel compact
the standard lighting with no reflectors just yet
and a 300w heater

my plans so far

Light natural gravel a nice fine one
Planted to the right hand side (not sure which plants just yet probably something grass like)
a bit of twiggy wood(currently soaking in a bucket of water with water changes twice a day) coming out of the planted area into the middle maybe with some plants attached
and to the left hand side possibly some sort of rocks

I'm not to sure on what fish I'll be going for just yet maybe a mix of tetras although Ive been offered a very lovely looking fish photos will follow

I'm no pro which it comes to fish keeping Ive had one tank that i had for a year with Silver Dollars Red tail shark and Neon tetras but that had a leak and carpet got ruined fish all gone, so i have a new tank to set up that I'm going to take more time setting up as last time i got a bit over excited and couldn't wait, so this time I'm going to make sure i get every thing as i want.

The main things I'd like ideas and help on is choise of plants and what to plant them into will i need a CO2 defuser
are the Philips Aquarium Purifier any good not that i'd be waiting 120 days to change the water and would one help with the wood leaching tannins

Beautiful Green Terror there looks like a female to me - brilliant interactive, intelligent fish but really aggressive - 150 liter corner tank is probably the minimum size for one really - you would be a bit limited with other fish you could add and you would have to be really careful and stick to really fast fish or tough fish. Probably 90% of Green Terrors end up being kept alone or in huge tanks with tough central american cichlids but you do get a few that dont cause any problems at all.

i think it is female the people who own it now had it with a large oscar which is no longer around and they no longer want the tank and said i could have it if i was interested, dont think i will have it i'd rather have a collection of smaller fish, but then again its a lovely fish

Its not that I am for aggressive fish or keep fish termed as aggressive because they are/ can be aggressive. Generally speaking aggressive fish are actually just intelligent and its the intelligence that gives them their character and the interaction that they hold with their keepers that makes them a fish to keep. But I can understand why people go for smaller schooling fish but for me I get bored if the fish dont stare back at you Just because a fish is termed as aggressive or semi aggressive does not mean that they have to be kept alone either and often a lot of fish are given the semi aggressive tag because of association rather than accuracy.

I understand the fish that interest you don't catch your eye simply because they are aggressive, I can also understand how you see smaller fish as boring. You never know, one day I may and probably will become bored of smaller fish and may want to take the step up to the more demanding fish that are probably more interesting and possibly more fun to keep. At the moment I am rather limited when it comes to space so I'm unable to have a large tank to keep bigger fish therefore I have to find interest in smaller species.

That's why i love Betta's, there labelled agressive but there just full of love its funny looking into a tank and having eyes staring back at you

If it is the first time you are taking the planted route, I would keep it as simple as possible, i.e. without CO2. With your standard lighting you can grow a varied number of plants, provided that you give them enough nutrients. Most people prefer to dose fertilizers through the water column in liquid form.

Have a look at different stem plants, crypts and echinodorus species, as well as ferns in for instance the tropica catalogue and see what would suit your needs and interests.

Beautiful Terror, wouldn't blame you for not taking it though. Hope it goes to a good home.

Planted community tanks are always nice in corner tanks. Easy to keep plants like Biulu stated. With one large group of Characin, a medium group of bottom dwellers, a pair of dwarf Cichlids and then a few shrimp and snails for something a little different.

A few shrimp sound like a good idea i had some Bamboo Shrimp in the last tank i did like them they always stayed on a plan near the front of the tank so nice an easy to see until the Silver Dollars made dinner of all the plants in the tank, What brands of liquid fertilizers are work looking into or are they all the same and also is the JavaPlants website any good or is it a better idea getting plant in a shop

I've got 3 green terrors and they can be alot of hassle at times.
So i'll agree with the rest a 150L corner tank would look alot nicer with alot of smaller fish in there and ofc the odd 'center piece'

I think i'd go cardinals, rams, keyholes, funky pleco

Cardinals sound like a good idea, altho ive not seen any for sale in a while in any of the places near me ive finally got a date for new carpet in the lounge so i now no when im gunna be getting the tank set up so time to start getting sorted,

Well im just about to go off an get me some new gravel and a new water testing kit probably the API Master Kit and have a good look at what plants i can be getting from the shop as i think im going to start setting the tank up next weekend, If any one else has any more Info on what type of things are going to be a good idea to get for good plan growth it would be handy as every thing i seem to find on different sites seems to contradict each other, the API First Layer® Pure Laterite seems to come up a few times but im really not sure

Don't know whether you have got the test kit or not yet? But, it is miles cheaper online. eBay is the best place to get it from... Just a little advice
