Shopping List - Tunze Nano Wavebox

You want a Bubble King Seff.
They are the dogs proverbials of the skimmer world.
Get your purse out love :p Let the moths fly.......

I have a V2 400 and its quiet.

Now I thought you were going to say the Remora

So you don't think I should get any of the ones on ebay?

OMG just went and looked at the Bubble King  but there is no way my purse could stand that battering

Lot of folks dont like TMC V2's. TBH I am perfectly pleased with mine.
Its awfully easy to get caugnt up in all the Tunze, Deltec, Aqua Medic hype out there.
I find my V2 400 adequate. I could have gone smaller, but I wanted to Overskim as it were, so perhaps the crux to all this is to buy a larger V2 than is actually stated on the tin.

I went for a high capacity v2 and had nothing but problems with them

I had a Deltec MCE500 that I never had any problems with & now have an Aquamedic shorty

IMO the build quality is no where near as good on the V2's

Seffie the burning question is:-
What sort of money are you willing to spend on a Protein Skimmer.
Ball Park Figure......

Well Colin, I had thought I would get a second hand bargain  like the look of that deltec on ebay which is three months old BUT I really do not want to be paying out an arm and a leg  so, something under a £100 - there seem to be many second hand skimmers around, it is just choosing a brand and model and then hunting it down :ninja:

I would go with a Deltec. then. no question.
The reason I bought a V2 was down to cost. I'm not really a second hand type of guy really.
The V2 sometimes gets bad reviews but I gathered that if I go bigger then I'd be fine. True they are not the build of the Big Boys out there but then again they are cheaper sometimes by a long way.
As I say mine does the job, is quiet and was pretty cheap so I'm pretty much satisfied.
If I had the money Well then it would have been a Deltec.
There's an AP600 on at present for £130 plus P&P needs a bit of cleaning though.

Question Big C,
Do you have any problems with over skimming. For my lionfish tank I have bought a V2 1200, real bargain £31, bearing in mind I don't know exactly how many litres the tank is yet, (4 days to go but who's counting ;) ) but it is big, and lionfish are messy eaters. Do you think I've gone over the top

I take it because you are keeping Lionfish in the tank the corals will no longer be present
Skimmers will strip certain elements from seawater quite noticeably Iodine etc. That said, if you overskim you may need to replace certain elements more frequently.
But dont just go adding supplements willy nilly and certainly dont dose supplements that you are not testing for.
Hope that helps even though you highjacked your sisters thread
