Right, hopefully I have decided that I am going to upgrade my nano to something like 300 litres  still in the research stage and this is going to be a slow build.......

First qustion is about a suitable, economic skimmer  which is either within the tank or hangs on the outside.

I have heard you all talk about the TMC V2, could probaly get a good second hand bargain

also the deltec, doubt I will get one of these for the money

Tunz, ehhh, not for the money

and what about the red sea pro, they seem to be compact, will hang on but are they any good?

I realise that bigger is better but there must come a time when you are just throwing money away?

So, what should I be looking out for when I am looking for that bargain?

And how big and what shouldn't I go below?

And what shouldn't I buy/

Just a few questions then

personally seffie, on a 300 litre, i would go with a TMC v2 600, about £50-60 second hand and there great. my mates got one and it pulls out some crap!

im getting one for my nano when ive got the £££

looks good, you could buy a bubble stop and fill it with floss, rowaphos and carbon, this is the same as what i am doing, and i will tell you if it works.

Link doesn't work ole girl

I'm interested in this too.

Question Truck, why not go for bigger, is it just the fact that it wouldn't make much difference to the size of tank, just your wallet

Ah but also depends on what sort of fish you are going to keep - big, dirty fish need a bigger skimmer, I think

You going to tell them about your big boy sis?

For skimmers, Aquamedic HOB's are OK, Tunze and Deltec are also good. A Deltec MCE600 would be what I'd get if I had to buy one, but having built my own, that is likely what I'd do again  I personally don't rate TMC's skimmers, having had a few mates whom bought their skimmers ended up having to return them with motor failures after a few months, but they are loved on here. Avoid Red Sea, Boyu and any cheap rip-offs of Tunze, Aquamedic, TMC or Deltec gear. :good:

I would not run UV. It solves the symptom, not the caurse. A fish will only go down ill if it's immuse system is compromised, either due to it being a weak specimin or due to stress. If it were a weak specimin, oh well, it wouldn't have lasted long and should not have been bought anyway. Heathy stock can be kept without UV. If it is stress bringing them down, it's a error in the livestocks care caursing it, and something that needs rectifying IMO. They can be used for Greenwater, but again, it solves the symptom not the caurse.

For heaters, look at Visitherm, Fluval Tronic, Tetratec and Hagen Elite heaters for internals, or Hydor in-lines for exturnals. They are all solid and reliable IME, but every heater should be replaced every few years for reliabilities sake anyway  Avoid Superfish heaters like the plague. I went thought three of those in as many months when I set-up the Discus tank...
