Next Fish Advice

first post!

quick introduction, ive had my tank for about 2 months with fish in for 1. The tank is 60 liters.

my first fish were 6 cardinals that went in after about a month of the tank running empty. Yesterday i got my second fish which are 3 orange sunshine guppys and i also got some live plants. Ive no idea about the plants, the lfs had offer of 4 for £5 and said they will do fine in sand just trim them when they get to large.

plan to add my last choice of fish in about 3-4 weeks but dont no what to add, i prefer several smaller fish to 1 larger and i also want to get some kind of shrimp at a much later date.

Suggestions please!

your vallis and anubias should do ok even in a low tech tank, the other non-aquatic plant will last for up to 6 months, it wont grow though - watch out for non-quatic plants in lfs'

As for another shoal i would recommend maybe some Serpae Tetra's? Or Glowlights.

Or if you were to want a bigger, single fish. Maybe a small pleco? like a Bristlenose or Bulldog? (wether your tank were big enough)

oh by the way, it looks like you'v planted your vallis as a bunch, which is fine, but you will be able to seperate them into lots of singular plants, this way you get more coverage and runners (new plants) are encouraged to grow into space.

thanks for the info guys, ive just been reading about how the stingray filters are basically pants so ive decided i should look at replacing it, having a look on the net ive decided on either a fluval plus or an aquaball. can anyone offer advice as to which would be more suited?

stingrays aren't great. You can't go wrong with fluval although i would opt for a external if possible.

want to avoid an external really, i dont have the space for it plus ive read horror stories of leaks

whats the best internal to go for? ive found Fluval 2 Plus for £15 which are rated up to 90L.

2+ is *OK*, personally I didn't think it was really big enough for my 2ft. 3+ would be better, or maybe a U series (2 or 3).

Have you tested your water recently?

You really need to check your water stats before you add anymore fish. Especially as by the sounds of it you've done a fish in cycle with a relatively heavy bioload.

Agreed with Curiosity ^ a good test kit like api freshwater master test kit is very handy for making sure that your water is good for your fish, tehre are some handy links around this site about that

If you are looking for a shoal of fish how about Rummy nose tetras? pentazona barbs?

or you could go wit a pair of blue or bolivian rams maybe? or dwarf gouramis?

for the bottom what about corydoras?

as i said im my first post ive had the tank two months with the fish in it for one, i did a fishless cycle using amonia. my cardinals were in the tank for a month and i added the guppys yesterday. i also said that im planning on adding more in 3-4 weeks

for the bottom what about corydoras?

i have been thinking of a cory, would be good to turn over the sand aswell.

will one be ok in my tank? dimensions are 23.5W x 13.5H x 11D. are they best kept on their own or pairs ?

Sorry you didn't actually mention you'd fishless cycled the tank. That's fine then, have fun deciding on which fish to get.

oooo i totally didnt know that used fishlessly done it haha

cories are best kept in groups, you could go with panda cories as they reach about 5-6cm so a group of 4 or 5 will be nice =] or even pygmy cories as they stay even smaller im sure so a group of 6 or 7 will be fine
