New Decor?

So i got a big stone from the beach around month ago and after pondering on it i went to work on it with a hammer and a old flat headed screw driver (much to my other half's dismay) So now I have plenty of shards of...pebble and I'm planning on using them as decor for my tank, preferably as a wee cave for my plec, cichlid etc. Question is Its been soaking in treated water now. So How long should I leave it, it's been soaking for around 5 hours and it will be left until at least tomorrow morning but should I leave it any longer? There were some air bubbles came off them but have since stopped. Also the edges are quite sharp as it took a bit of doing to split off shards, so...what do I do??

did you soak them in boiling water? if not i'd boil them just to make sure any parasites are killed once you've done that and tested if it reacts to vinegar it should be ok to go in.

do not boil rocks!!!! it can cause them to explode and then your other half will REALLY be dismayed!!!


best thing is to put them in a large tupperware container outside, and pour hot water over them - then make sure you stand out of the way JUST IN CASE- once it cools, pour it out then repeat.

first, take one of the tinier pieces and put it in a glass with vinegar - it you see any fizzyness / bubbles then you cannot use the rock in the aquarium


but again - DO NOT BOIL ROCKS!
