And Yep. She Likes talking about fish. But Sometimes i bore Her when i talk about them for hours on end! Unless im in a sacastic mood and decide to joke around.

The rest ar'nt intrested into the fish keeping hobby accept my mom and dad.

I'll explain how this hobby started in my Family

My Mom ( When she was 7 ) Won a goldfish at a circious. And Kept him in a bowl for 3 years. Then put him in a pond where he grew. Then she brought a 2ft tank and got 3 goldfish And kept them. Then nothing happioned for a long time

When she was 21. My Dad Brought her a 2 ft tank. And she brought two baby oscar's ( Unknowing they would eat the other fish ) One Died Of Stunt. The other Grew 5 Inch's. Then my mom sold the tank After buying a 4ft tank for the oscar. Anywho. Then Dad brought her a 7ft tank for her birthday. Witch cracked after 3 year's. She Thenk ( On the same day ) was urged to buy a huge tank ( a tube one ) for £200 from A&D But instead brought another 7fter. After that she put her oscar's sev's in it etc. Then she sold that tank And Went into the world marine. At the time she had 3 Of us ( I Remember the oscar tank slightly ( the one witch leaked everywhere ) ) And another child on the way. So She sold the marine tank after 2 weeks. ( Due to it being ALOT of hard work. )

So When i was 11 We brought Another 2 ft tank. Witch She sold when i was at school . This year i got very intrested in fish again and was offered a 5 gallon tank ( with 2 fancy goldfish unknowing it was over stocked ) I Brought 2 more oranda's. Then On My birthday ( a week or two on ) I Brought myself a 60 Litre Tank ( still here with me ) Witch is now going due to upgrade.

Wow. ALOT to read/Write there.

Dad was on about it with the 60 Litre and i did'nt listen and water went everywhere Trust me to forgot about the water pressure.

this is going to be fun. Getting rid of a quater of the water in the tank

Ok Guys. I Went to my LFS today. And they had a beutiful oscar.

( I Know you all know im going to get him now )

And the guy they're said that he's being bullyed ( approx 4-5inch ) So i was buying some back ground. And he asked me how big my tank is ( as duumb as the guy is he bleeives i can put an oscar in a uncycled tank ) So i said if you give me some of the media. I Will look after him until he's strong again etc.

So Please Dont go on about me not aloud to keep him. I Know i should'nt. But its for his own good. I Believe i can give this oscar a better home. And If i round up the right amount of money. I Will buy him a bigger/better home.

Some people just don't listen to countless advise given to them...

At 4-5 inch he's not going to much futher of being to big for you're tank already. Oscar;s grow fast and get big , that's why everyone's saying don't get one until you have a tank big enough for it.

Well you need to upgrade your tank within 3 months maximum then, an Oscar, feed properly, will grow 1-1/2" a month until they reach 10"ish, then they slow down. Whilst you may think your doing the best for it (or at least convincing yourself) without the right size tank, you will only add to his misery. And if this was A&D you went to, those 3 large oscars are already way to large for that tank, lovely as they are. The one I think your talking about, has alot of damage but is healing compared to how he was a few weeks ago, but with the slightes loss of good water quality it will come back and easily turn to HITH.

No I Know how bigthey row etc.

But The probelm is he's in a 5 gallon at the moment and the fish shop owner cant keep him there. And offered him to me.

It all Depends To Be honest. My mom wont shut up about them and when im not in is garenteed to buy one. ( Trust Me. I Know. )

+ I Have Known people to Keep oscar's in 35 gallon tanks and they've still grown pretty big ( 8-9 inchs )

Also its only temperarly For/until the owner phones me to tell me he's ready for the oscar to be returned.

Its either him going off with some-one who does'nt havethe right tank for him.


Minx. There from Earls ( if you've been there you'df see the tanks some of them rae kept in. )

And I know i will have to upgrade soon ( again ) And I Will Add every single last penny towards a new tank.

I Know people who keep these oscar's in 10 gallon tanks and if you say im cruel. I Think to myself "Yes i know its cruel in some degree. Yet Look at what others have kept them in. If im Cruel what does it make Them?"

EDIT Again : he's around 3-4 inch's ( My Bad ) But Like i said.

Would you like to be in a 5 gallon tank? Or Have some room to swim in?

I Want to provide this fish what he REALY needs. I Believe that i can give him a better suited home. But also. If some-one else takes him by saturday then I'll ask the LFS guy. If the fish went to a better home.

It's still cruel to keep them in the tank either way no matter which way you try looking at it. just because you've seen it done ina 35 gal doesnt mean it's right , a 8-9 inch oscar is no where near fully grown , an oscar if kept correctly would grow larger than your tank is wide.

You've done the same thing though! They still might go to someone with a big enough tank.



I think what makes this worse than some unfortunate fisk keeper who doesnt know how big they grow is that all advise has been given on the subject and liek you say you know how big they grow etc .

I Know Oscars can grow well over 8-9 Inch's. And I Know theres that slight possiblity that some-one with a better aquarium can give him a home. But I Just want to help Out for Now.

And i know you'll all proberly commetn now saying "You can help by leaving him"

But liek i said before

"Would you Want to move around in a room? Or would you rather be crampt into a small spot and not be able to move at all?"

And as i said its only temperarly. Not permentant.
