I'm going to be blunt, you should not get that oscar without a suitable tank to house him. It is cruel as 1) your tank is not big enough, 2) you keep saying you have no money - how will you ever get a suitable tank within 2-3 months MAXIMUM.

I also think what you are saying about the LFS is utter rubbish - that just doesn't happen, these people are running a business not a fish adoption club.

I think you have decided we talk out of our bottoms when we tell you 180l is not big enough because 'you've seen such-a-body keep them in smaller tanks' - just because people do does not make it right.

If you are convinced that your mum will get one regardless then get her to join the forum and talk to Shelagh, Minx and myself (and the other past and present oscar keepers).

Know what, it wouldn't surprise me if that Oscar is in your tank right now. *shakes head sadly*

I was also going to say the exact same thing. If you can't afford a Test-Kit, how will you be able to afford the upkeep of an Oscar. Sorry, but that tank is way too small.

There are certain fish that can get by with being in small tanks (guppies) not saying this is a good practise to do, but an Oscar comes no where near on the list.

I wouldn't buy it.

Some people just don't listen to countless advise given to them...

At 4-5 inch he's not going to much futher of being to big for you're tank already. Oscar;s grow fast and get big , that's why everyone's saying don't get one until you have a tank big enough for it.

Also its only temperarly For/until the owner phones me to tell me he's ready for the oscar to be returned.

Its either him going off with some-one who does'nt havethe right tank for him.

Yep, you dont have the *correct tank size* for him either
