Here are a few of my Red Belly Piranha videos. It took over a year to put this shoal together. I started rescuing them from local fish stores. I was going to start with juvies but I saw two big guys in a very small tank with half dead goldfish swimming with them. I felt bad for them, so I bought them and moved them into a 55 gallon...than the addiction started. I now have seven ranging from 7 inches to around 9-10 inches. (it's pretty hard to measure them and kind of scary) They now live in a 125 gallon tank and have turned into the most aggressive shoal I've had and the ugliest. I don't feed them food that's still alive, only fish fillets, frozen silversides, some poultry and shrimp.

Do you have to have a permit? I heard they were banned in some parts the US. Just wondering...

The fish are looking great! Did they eat the convicts or did u rehome them? Imho the tank looks a little too small for those guys?

No I don't need one. They are legal in my state.

Thank you.  I rehome the convicts when they get bigger and the lfs will take them.  The piranhas don't bother them because they are so small and they help keep the tank clean when they eat the leftovers after a feeding.  With tank size I try to keep piranha around 15-20 gallons per fish.  Technically I should have only 6 in this size tank but one extra hasn't hurt anything.  They are not a very active fish until feeding time.  I only show part of the tank in the videos.  They still have an extra foot on both sides.
