Thanks Oldman. It's a shame that sticky is so old the links to the pics are broken. I would like to see something that shows you a guppy fry's progress.
Also can I ask-do swordtails have gravid spots? I noticed my lyretail female has an enormous belly, but no gravid spot. She also chases the other female swordtail away-is that dominance?
My other blonde female guppy died this morning, her fins and tail were shredded I don't know who could have caused that

Neptune54-Thanks, I couldn't believe it when I saw 10. I had to count, count and count again.
I will be looking for a bigger tank at this rate I just didn't expect to have any success with guppies due to the bad luck i've had with them. I have people ready to take them. I have passed on my knowledge I have gained from the site and their tanks are cycling with mature media Hopefully in about 2/3 months they can go to their new homes. Is that old enough?

Thanks, any bigger and she will be sinking instead of swimming! I don't know what happened to the deceased one. When I found her, her belly was big, she had this white thing coming out from next to her female fins, and her tail and fins were shredded. It was horrible. I don't know who could have nipped her.

I guess thats why your going for a corner unit, my niece has one with plain reflective background... gives the most amazing look of depth/infinity if you know what I mean...good choice.

Yeah that's it. In the corner so my little girl can't knock it over. Kids are far too curious
It's really daunting thinking about having to move everything but I did it in January for a 40 to a 64 so it hopefully should go smoothly when I get another tank.

My fry are a week old tomorrow. I will post pics of them so it will be like a progress chart type thing every week I will post a pic of how they have progressed as I think people will find it helpful. I was looking for a picture progress chart of guppy fry but couldn't find an up to date one so I will need to make one of my own

aww!!! that reminds me of when my platy fry was really little - he's 2 weeks old tonight and looks just like a mini colourless version of another platy in my tank (according to the pinned thread above about how to tell if your livebearer is male or female she's a female (not the fry's mum). do platy's often die while giving birth??? because Happy (my fry)'s mum is still alive and i think she and Shimmer (another of my platys) are pregnant.

Aww congrats! I don't think you can tell if they are male/female so soon. I am pretty sure I read somewhere they all look female until the males part develops. It could be months.
Your female shimmer is very pretty
Usually they give birth without a hitch. Sometimes they do develop complications and die, I was very unlucky. Plus my female guppy died but I have 10 of her babies.
My little platy fry is doing great I think he is 5 or 6 weeks old now.

So I acquired another male from my friend I have 3 males and 3 females and made a heartbreaking decision to give him my 2 female lyretail swordtails
Here is my new male. He is a lyretail and has a gorgeous turquoise sheen to him.

He is clear with spots on his side, and this is what happens when the lights are on

His tail turns electric blue! Awesome!

My breeder net came so I had to rearrange everything in order for it to fit!

I don't believe it. I have just spotted another fry darting about. I am sitting here with net and turkey baster. It's sitting in the tiny gap between the anubias and the rock

Edit: caught it and put it in the net. I don't know if it's maybe escaped as I was transferring them from the plastic box into this large net. I don't know if it's 10 or now 11 I can't see cus of the net so i'll need to wait and see.
