Well yesterday my friend gave me another 2 guppies. He told me the swordtails will out grow my tank :( so he's taken them but I kept the cream lyretail female for just now.
I now have the 2 males, and 3 pale yellow females. They all look identical maybe sisters? They are all fine and active but this morning I noticed one of them with a really deep red mark just before her anal fin. They both came from the female only tank which is why I am getting increasingly concerned it's a bruise or internal bleeding. Sorry about the bad quality pics, it's deep red.

she's the one on the right

You can see the dark red dots better in this pic

Can someone please help, just seems like somethings not right. Thanks

Thats called a gravis spot. It's not a sign of being pregnant as all females guppies have them. However see dose already look pregnant for you, so enjoy the babies that are on their way ;)

Ah I thought a gravid spot was only black. That's why I panicked thinking oh no somethings wrong. Plus she was in a female only tank. Unless she was split up too late?

Don't worry! The large red spot just indicates that she is pregnant! Get ready for fry, because guppies are well known for having a LOT of fry... :fish:

The large red (gravid) spot does not indicate she's pregnant, although yours does look like she is.

If you look's she's a cream coloured guppy, this is refereed to as being "Blond" this means the black is not present in the scaling giving this blond look to them. this also affects the gravid spot, it's more red in blonds then being black, this is due to a tissue in the stomach cavity being a different colour between normal and blond guppies.

I only had one platy fry survive so I don't think I will have too many guppies surviving lol

She does look rather fat-but still from a female only tank? There must be a male in there somewhere.

Ah so light coloured fish = red coloured gravid spots and darker fish = black spots?
I'm so relieved she's not bleeding

Better search in there. Some sneaky male pretended to be a female to get in the bachelorette pad! He's been the king of the house lol I guess you'll find out if all of your guppies wind up preggo. :hyper:

Ok that made me laugh! It's my friends fault he is way overstocked. He has a jewel rio which is his main tank which most of my platies ended up in as he liked the hi fins. Now my swordtail male has gone there too. He has a few baby platies in there aswell. Then he has the fish boxes I think that's what they are with male guppies in one and female guppies in the other. I didn't choose he just brought them over.

I didn't want anything fancy so I have a very pale almost white male guppy with pink/blue/yellow tail and orange spots on his side and completely blue/black male who is in one of the pics. These females are the fanciest one's i've had, only ever seen grey ones and all 3 of these are pale yellow with 2 colours on there tails but one of them who was one of the first to come over has a black gravid spot which is why I panicked about the red gravid spot.

I didn't even want guppies after my horror with them I started to despise them but they are so cute and colourful and i'm ending up swaying back towards them since i've kept them alive for more than a few hours. I think it's because my tanks properly cycled now.
The excitement is seeing what colour combinations the babies end up. My lone platy fry is doing so well, has the dark face like his mum and his body is going yellow. His fins are black too. He is 5 weeks old now and swimming about like a big fish lol.

 Sorry more didn't live. were they eaten? I have first hand proof that the breeder boxes should only be a place to be born into. 2 of my fry had escaped it and are really big, the rest that I didn't set free until 2 weeks after are wayyyy smaller even though I fed them 4 times a day. I feel bad that they are so small. But! because I safeguarded them, I now have about 20 fry! omg. lol

The blue/black guppy looks really pretty, would like to see his babies!

I've never had guppies...would be fun to look next time I'm at the fish store.

I think they must have! I found him at a week old in the slate cave with the cories. After oldmans advice I let him out the breeder box at 3 weeks old and he started colouring up almost instantly and he has a little fat belly! I was just worried he didn't get any food.
Aww 20 fry! omg I hope I don't have 20 fry, I was panicking with just 1 fry!

I haven't seen a blue/black guppy like that before, I hope he has a chance to have babies-the females don't let the males near them

I had a 10g ready to move the fry into, but my 46g has Ich, and I didn't want to worry about it in 2 tanks so I let them loose in the big house. lol They better not get too happy in there cause they are going to the fish store when they grow.

Aww sorry to hear about the ich, that's really tough to sort.
The lfs around here are reluctant to take platies and guppies since they are so common :(

Same with me... they said if I had some really nice ones, I could bring them over and they would give me some store credit. Unfortunately, I think it's pretty hard to get really nice platies, since they all look so similar. :) Just out of curiousity, is that an all-black guppy in the background of the first picture? I read somewhere that they're a pretty rare type of guppy.

They do have some really nice platies I like the hi fins. The contrast of the black fins with silver/blue body is really striking!

My guppy isn't black but a midnight blue colour. His colour is quite deceptive.
When my friend first brought him over he was very dark. His dad is a blue moscow guppy who my friend bought over the internet. After him being in the tank for a day he started to get lighter. Today I have noticed he has a yellow tail and yellow appearing on his body so he's not true blue but he's still very pretty :)
