My Guppy Fry Journal

You are doing just fine then
After the first week max, move them to a net. They are fine, but still create a dirty enviroment because the little holes in the net do get a bit dirty. But it's better. The only thing is if you move the fry out of it, careful for the fry not to get stuck between the plastic and the net(this can happen if the fry are very small). I have a very small net that I can use to net them out when cleaning a net type breeder box. I have kept guppy fry in a net for up to 4 weeks with no problem but you still have the follow the same maintainance as for the plastic box.
The would grow faster in their own tank though than in a breeder net.

As for the pinned tailed fry, he may, he may not be ok. Watch if some of the rest start developing the same signs in case it is contagious. Hopefully his tail was just bitten before you saved him from the adult monsters :D If you have a magnifying glass you may be able to see.

I ordered it last night so it should be here this week. They will be a week old on friday  I hope it comes by then. As soon as they are 3/4 weeks old they can go into the main tank. My platy fry grew unbelievably quick when I let him into the main tank at 3 weeks old. He is now almost 6 weeks old and almost 2 cms long.
I don't have a magnifying glass unfortunately but I will just keep an eye on the little grey fry. Poor thing. It doesn't affect his swimming and he is eating fine and pooping so I hope he will be fine :) Thanks for the help

I was using a turkey baster to clean my breeder net too. It's my fav fish tool. Good luck with these guys!

Thanks! I only started using it as I saw on someone elses thread that they use one too. It's like a wonder tool lol.

I have been doing some reading on the internet about guppies born with pointy tails. Most of the info suggests it's an abnormality due to inbreeding. Others say it's due to stress of moving to the breeder tank. A lot of people said the fry died within a few days. Mines is 3 days old now so I will keep a close eye on him.

Looks like I will have more fry tomorrow, didn't realise this female was so big and she is defo looking square. I'm going to let her have them in the tank if any survive they survive.

I'm in a total panic. I was cleaning the box out as I gave the babies frozen daphnia and as I was filling the tank up, I didn't realise the trap was tipping and of course when the water raised the fry swam out - I managed to catch one of them again I now have 7 in the trap so 3 are missing  I am so stupid and so angry at myself I let that happen. I usually hook one side of the trap to the thermometer. I can't believe it, what a tard I am. One of them is too fast for me to catch then the swordtails were chasing it. I hope the 3 survive. I haven't seem them it's been an hour :(

Edit - just caught another-I have 8 in the trap now. 2 missing

I just saw one at the top next to the filter and got him. One missing.

 Don't beat yourself up about it. One time, I put a couple fry into the main tank to see if it would be safe for the others. Later, I managed to net one of the them and put him back into the breeder net, but I never saw the other again. Accidents happen, and all you can do is learn from your mistakes. :good:

The last one got sucked into the filter. I am so awful. I should have known that if one end of the trap is hooked on the thermometer, the other side will go down with the water level
Never mind. I have 9 now, which hopefully will grow up strong. I do stupid things like lift the trap up and forget the water drains out-yes I should be locked up

Mine have been in the main tank since day 2 and 4 of mine got sucked into my filter. I was missing some and decided to check and 2 had died! I felt horrible but that is when I got a foam insert for a filter and stuck it over my intake. No more babies missing!

Aww that's horrible. I always catch them as soon as I see them now.

oh don't feel bad....I did a water change with mine in the trap still and forgot!! to unsuction it form the glass, I noticed just in the 1/8 of an inch of time. Thank goodness babies are tiny.

Glad you saved 2 of them. :)

Oh no! You just seem to get into a routine and forget little things. I now have 9 babies, only 1 lost so still a good number and with the 2nd female huge and square i'm expecting another drop from there so might save 1 or 2 from her too. It's a tough decision though because I can't save every single fry as I will be overstocked in no time but it feels so harsh. Then again nature does what she does for a reason so that's what I will go with.

I am such a fool. I just happened to look at the fry as they are trying to swim against the current and counted them-there's 10! I must have saved them all.I thought I saw one get sucked into the filter, the lights were off mind you so it must have went behind it! Oh I am so relieved. The grey baby with the pointy tail has a normal tail now. Maybe because they are so small I couldn't see but it definitely looked pointy.
Also, my very square female seems to be hanging around on the sand. The only time she moves is to chase any other fish who come near her away. The white male is shadowing her every move, just hovering behind her, she keeps chasing him away but he keeps coming back so maybe she is close. My other female (the mum of these babies who died) wasn't as big as this girl so she can't be too much longer now :)

 Fry, fry, and more fry! Looks like you're doing everything right! So happy about the tenth guy!
