My Guppy Fry Journal

Seachem Prime is the most recommended water treatment here. It costs more per bottle, but you use much less and ends up costing less in the long run. Plus, it removes a load of trace minerals and nasties from the water.

I asked all the lfs around here about it they haven't heard of it but I seen it online so that's what it will need to be.

Any of the commonly available water treatments will work just fine. I use Prime because it is cheaper to use than many of the others and I have 26 tanks that I do water changes on. At that scale the cost actually becomes a factor. For 1 or 2 tanks, the cost of one treatment vs another is almost meaningless since it is only a few cents for each water change. Do not stress out about finding a particular dechlorinator. Just choose the one locally available that is cheapest to use, yes that means reading and understanding the label before you compare prices.

I bought the one at £10 only because the small bottles are £5-£6 each and I was going through a bottle a week due to doing so many water changes when my nitrite spiked away back in january. It was costing me a fortune. This one has lasted me a while and it better value.

No sooner had I spoke when one of the babies tails went pointed, his back was sort of bent like an arch shape and he died.
Oldman-why do tails go pointed? Is it the water? Is it the actual fry? It;s been a factor for most of my fry. All the endler fry died due to getting pointed tails and arch shaped bodies. I would really like to know what causes it.
Thanks

pointed tails uesley poor water quality in your case it may be thet you ghange to much water or to soon afther
fry are born. give them a chance to build up ther immunity,

Why would their spines bend though? This issue with water changing everyday is silly. Most people DO water change everyday with new fry to keep water quality up as they only put an airstone in their fry tanks.

I've been water changing everyday this week and no one has died or gone all pointy. I'm worried about your tank NY82, I'm sorry I don't have advice for you. Have you done research on the symptoms?

I have been looking it up and looking it up, and nobody seems to have a definitive answer. Some people say it's due to inbreeding, some people say it's a bacterial/fungal infection, some say it's pollutants in the water. Who knows what it could be, I have never had this problem before until recently. Everything is the same as before just the tanks been moved. Very weird. I will just need to keep an eye on them.

The onl reason I can think of for bending spines is having too many in the trap, but from your previous posts that doesn't seem likely. If you haven't already, I would maybe try yahoo answers or a different forum - there are a lot of trolls, but a few members have had this prolem before, and they give frequet answers.

I took the piece of tights off the filter so the stream is fast again and put the trap right in front of it so their water is filtered too. They are finding it hard to swim against the current but they will learn!
There are 4 left and they are growing nicely and have full round tails which I am glad about. These ones seem fine so I am just crossing my fingers.
I will have a look around other forums it seems to be a problem which a lot of people have experienced.

So since the filter streams fast again, the fry have had a sudden growth spurt! They are doing really well and i'm so glad.
They are almost a cm in length head to tail, the biggest one is half black just like mum. I can't wait for them to grow and colour up :)
I will also post pics of my previous fry who is growing nicely his dorsal fin is getting longer and his body is turning more red.
My female molly is also getting a bigger belly, I don't know if mollies are the same as guppies and if they go square too, but if she does I will have albino babies :hyper:
Can't wait!

Mollies and guppies are pretty similar when they are close to the end :good: Platies too.

Ok cool, I will look out for signs then! This is the 3rd week I have had her. She was pretty slim when she came to me, the male has been mating with her so still another 2 weeks or so? She is still slim but just a slight bulge. I will see if I can get a pic of her too.

So here is a pic I took of my female when I first got her, as you can see her belly is relatively flat.

This is her now, it's hard to get a pic of her these days, she freezes when she sees me and puts her fins down and just sort of hovers but when I go away she comes out of hiding and starts swimming around again :/

Her belly seems a bit more round she doesn't have a gravid spot so she might just be putting on weight.

I never saw a gravid spot on my lighter platy. She'll get ALOT bigger then that if shes preggo :D She could be barely pregnant though. OR you are just fattening her all up, but I'm betting pregnant since she's a molly lol

I don't have any platies right now and I'm starting to get the platy itch. lol

I think she's only just starting to show, when I first got them, the male and her mated all the time. That was 3 weeks ago so she could still have another week or 2 to go. She isn't very big, she's the same size as the female guppies.

Lol aww you should maybe get some then. I liked my hi fin platies there colours were very striking :)
