My Guppy Fry Journal

You can't keep water TOO clean. I'm more worried that something has been introduced to your tank. You have fish dying all over the place, but it's tests perfectly. Something isn't adding up.

how often are you feeding the fry.
I don't have any fry left :( I was feeding them 3 or 4 times a day. Tetra min 3 times and frozen daphnia once.

I know this is why it's so frustrating. I tested the water when the male died, it was perfect. The only fish I added were the mollies from the woman who had them advertised as she was shutting down her tank. They are fine and very active.
The day before the male died, his body was sort of curved and he just hung around the top of the filter. The fry also had curved bodies and their tails were pointed. Can someone please tell me why their tails would point? Seems like when this happens and their bodies bend they die.
Thanks

phewf it took me two hours but i've finally got to the end of the thread. (sorry i know this is a bit off topic),
and decided that i want guppys. the only problem is i have temperate tank with variatus platys so cant have any tropicals.

Ny82: one of the tanks at school seemed to be doing that - all the fish dieing for no reason so we put the suvivoirs in the other tank and changed all the water and washed everything in tap water. they added new fish on thurs so i'm looking forward to wednesday when i get to go and see the newbies :hyper: maybe you should take the tank apart and start again (as in with the same fish) (and get rid of some of those snails so you can check the bodies for symptoms) i think you must have brought in a disease with your new fish. hang in there and ask the people at your lfs - they might know. also use google, books etc to see of you can find out whats wrong.
maybe salt might help???

(ps i'm only a newbie to fishkeeping - less than a year - so i wont mind if you completely ignore me)

I'm worried about you washing everything in tap water. Did that include the filter and media??

urm dunno but the teacher knows what shes doing. as do the sixformers who've just left. and the fish in there were moved. i think we're doing a fish-in cycle at the mo.

I wouldn't ignore anyone, everyone has their opinions :)
I wouldn't wash anything in tap water however as it contains flouride and chlorine and sometimes lime. This could be harmful to fish which is why we use tapsafe to de chlorinate the water so it is safe to use. Empty some tank water into a bucket and I would wash the filter in there, but very gently so the bacteria which has grown, isn't disturbed :)
I would never ask my lfs for help. They keep siamese fighters with barbs and angel fish  They let kids walk away with 2 and 3 goldfish for their 25L tanks. They are just there to make as much money as possible unfortunately.
I only used salt when the tank had ich. There aren't any symptoms-flashing, white spots or anything like that so I don't know whats going on. The "fry" I have left was mating with my female guppy I have so he's not a fry anymore!!! The mollies are also fine.

So I thought i'd put up pics of my juvenile guppy :D He is about 3 months old now.
this was him last week

This is him now. The red on his tail has intensified, above his pectoral fins, his body is red(you can only just see it in this pic) his dorsal fin is also turning red and he is half black phew, what a combination! Can't wait for him to reach his full colours.

His male parts developed and i've seen him mating with the female. He's all grown up now :( lol

Aww. He's purdy. :hyper:

He's naughty, he nips my hand when I trim the plants lol! I can't wait to see how he fully turns out. I will need another female guppy and molly as I have 1 of each at the moment and don't want them to be stressed but I have good news, the small tank I gave to my friend (aqua one 35L tank) is coming back to me so I think I will cycle that and have it as a nursery/hospital tank :D

Good news! I guess I will share, I saw this amazing guppy yesterday, his full body was in cobra pattern. I obsessed over him all night and I am going to get him, which means I need some females lol I am nervous though because one of the tetras in with him, MAY have had an ich spot.

I'll have to QT the new ones when I get them home.

Hope you find some pretty females when you go to get them!
