My Guppy Fry Journal

How strange...for one to go missing like that...two is just wierd !

Here's a thought...sorry if its a bit gory...the little conical snails that live in the gravel (I had a plague of them when I kept Cichlids) could the fish have died and they pulled the bodies under the gravel ! I had an Angelfish die suddenly in the night once and in the morning it was covered in them !

On a lighter note, I know you are very attached to your fish but you can look for some new little gems now. :)

Edit...Not sure what I did wrong for this reply to appear in same box, never happened before

I found the head of the yellow male, the snails eat the dead bodies. My friend came over with another yellow male and a half black male with a red tail. We will see if they last. I am so annoyed that my waters fine and the fish are still dying, this is what happened when I first got guppies and vowed never to have them again but they are so pretty.

I rest my case your Honour ;)

Your Endlers are ok though are'nt they !

No :( when I came back earlier, my 16 week old fry who I suspected had the babies and one of the endlers were dead, sort of wedged between the filter and the tank wall :( I just have one endler left, the 2 new males, the endler female, 2 female guppies, 5 fry who are 7 weeks old and the 6 newborn fry. I hope I don't lose anymore. I just don't know what's going on. I don't know if it was the stress of moving? It's not moving anywhere now so that's it.

Omg I am so sorry to have read all this, been distracted with a couple of books this week and have not been near the Internet........

That's ok :) I am just confused as to why they suddenly all died.
This morning I switched the tank on and the fish were all accounted for :good:

I know this is off-topic but I have been reading this thread forever and wanted to tell you I just brought home guppies for the first time ever :) They are acclimated and in the tank with the light off. I'll get pics later. Just sharing because this thread is the reason I wanted to try them.

I also brought home 3 platies since they are my fav. We found neat ones Tiger striped.

Aww that's brilliant! I am so happy that my thread made you get them! The whole point of my thread was to give people a guide on fry and other things.
I don't know if any of you remember but I couldn't keep them alive for more than a few hours and look at me now, fry, fry and more fry! Good luck with your guppies! I can't wait to see pics of them and your platies. They sound lovely.

On the topic of pics, here are the new male I got yesterday. Sorry for the quality I can't remember where I put my camera, so they are from my phone.

My gorgeous pink and yellow male. He has a pink band round his body

In this pic you see my new half black male with the red tail and the yellow male

The half black male again, his tail is bright red with black pin stripe. It's ragged but he came from a male only tank. It will recover quick

I am hoping to get some fry from them!

nice Guppies the female in the last pic is not looking too good. Guppies can tolerate a wide range of temperature when kept between 68f- 74f they often become stronger and longer lived and also become les acceptable to diseases

Love the yellow male!

My new male is a Red Tuxedo. He has a lovely pink patch on his body and a red tail. My females are ugly ducklings :/ It's true, but you never know what the babies will turn out like and they are both obviously pregnant. They are both gray, one just solid gray duckling and the other has some promising markings on the tail and dorsal fin, but it's patchy so not pretty either. I love them  There were only three females in the store so there wasn't a choice anyway and they looked healthy.

I know you had trouble in the past and still have a issue now and then and when we were looking, my first thought was no guppies! Then I thought, why not try it out? It sounded so fun here to see what they turn out like.

That female in the last pic is the crazy one. She jumps into the fry trap, she swims so fast and chases all the males  She is the first one at the food and gobbles it all up!
My tank temp is at 26. Why doesn't she look good? She's just not got a big belly if that's what you mean lol
FishFanatic04-that's a shame! Ugly ducklings lol. They might be ugly ducklings but they will produce beautifully coloured fry :)I am lucky to have found a half blonde half black female with the electric blue tail (her back end is in the first pic lol) the other female is the one in the last pic and my 3rd female is just a plain endler female.
The reason I got them again is my friend and his overstocked tanks lol. I haven't looked back and I love them again.

it looks like it needs a good feeding up lol
do you feed any live foods?

I don't know how lol she's such a grubber! I feed flake in the morning-she's the first one up when I turn the lights on! I feed frozen daphnia in the afternoon as I have fry in the main tank, she also sits under the trap and catches the tetramin that comes out the sides when I feed the babies and then flake at night! She is constantly eating but she is the most active of them all and jumps too so she must be burning it off haha!

So, I know how to tell when platies are close to having their fry. With guppies, it should be similar but they are so tiny! Their fry must be so little. Do their bellies look similar at the end of the pregnancy?
