My Guppy Fry Journal

So, I know how to tell when platies are close to having their fry. With guppies, it should be similar but they are so tiny! Their fry must be so little. Do their bellies look similar at the end of the pregnancy?

Yeah they are similar to platies. My guppies were very square I think I put pics up before they had fry. The fry certainly are tiny, only a few millimetres long head to tail! So cute!
I only have 1 of my cobra females fry left. They just disappear. I hope it survives. The other 5 are from the endler. They are so small also!

Ok so yesterday I was busy. I travelled to the next town where someone was shutting down their tank and a pair of albino mollies caught my eye in the for sale list. I picked them up, the female is white with red eyes the male is rust and black with red eyes. I can't wait for them to have fry to see if they turn out albino or carry the gene! The man said the females never had fry. He also said he works a lot so maybe didn't spot them before the gourami got to them.
They have settled in well and are still exploring. I will put some pics up later :)

So here are some not very good pics, got them at feeding time earlier.

The female didn't survive :( I don't know what was up, once again my water stats were reading fine.
I managed to get another female though. She is a golden colour with spots and she's also albino with red eyes.
I hope this one survives

Thought I would just put up pics of the fish I have left. Not a lot, and only 3 endler fry left :( none of the cobra females survived. I really don't get it. I change the water every day, if I knew it wasn't going to make any difference I would save myself the bother.

I will start with my yellow male with the pink tail.

The fry is so cute. I'm sorry about all of your troubles. I can sympathize and I know it sucks.

Thanks I was left with 4 fry. I kept him for his patterned tail and white dorsal fin. The rest went to the same woman who took the first lot. I had 6 fry from the cobra female and 7 from the endler female. I am left with 3 baby endlers.
Ah well, here's hoping there will be more.

Well disaster struck again. My beautiful yellow and pink male is missing, the 3 fry ended up with pointy tails I don't know why, and they have died too. I am left with 2 mollies, my previous fry and my female guppy. It all started when I moved the tank, then moved it again.
It really frustrates me that I do daily water changes and my fish are dropping like flies. My stats have been stable since about february. There are people who just whack fish in and leave them to it and don't get a single death. Like my friend for example. Had her goldfish in a 25L tank for 6 years. No filter, nothing. Just a weekly change. Didn't know anything about water stats.
I am now starting to think guppies maybe aren't for me again. I will just need to see what happens.

Why were you doing daily water changes if your stats have been stable since February?

The fry trap used to get very messy lol. So I used to clean it out with a turkey baster every morning. Plus the fry who were in the main tank and I kept reading that fry need pristine water to grow. So I would change just a small 10% every morning and 50% on a sunday. The last water change I done was sunday and thats when the next one will be.

you are doing to many water changes 1 or 2 times a week is all you need to do.
it's crap about fry or guppy's needing pristine water you are keeping your water to clean.

Ah thanks. I will stick to just once a week then :)
