Oooh it's always so exciting watching them grow and seeing what they turn out like! My half blonde/half black female is almost due, she is square but I don't think she's quite ready yet. CANT WAIT!!!! I love having fry!

I woke up to fry :hyper:
I noticed yesterday my females gravid spot was almost gone but she was still quite round so no doubt she had a good meal as the fry I caught look like they are at least a day or 2 old. There are only 4 I caught, the mollies are in full force attack on the cabomba bunch on the left of the tank so the fry are/were probably there. I have a lot of plant, plus the slate cave for the cories which has a big tangle of java moss on it so I am hoping there are a few more :)

Just saw a fry get eaten :( but managed to save another so that's five! my female has a very big fan shaped tail so I have high hopes for the fry, I just hope they survive.

Can i ask without having to go through 22 pages are you using breeding boxes or just letting them give birth in your main tank?

Interesting thread :)

Looking forward to see what colour patterns emerge...one of the many joys of keeping Guppies !

Thanks, sometimes if I judge it right, I put them in the trap, but most times I don't and they just end up having them in the main tank. I thought she still had a week to go as yesterday she was thinner but she had had them that's why lol.

Yeah I can't wait esp since my fry that made it into adult hood is so pretty :D

Thanks for replying :) Do you get a lot live in your main tank then or do most of them get eaten?

You're welcome :)
Even though my tank has lots of plants, and a slate cave and java moss-no :( I don't know what's changed but lets look back at the female who started this thread for me to see if I can work it out.

I got her from a friend after I vowed no more guppies. Once again I didn't judge it right and she had them in the main tank. Now there was just the 3 guppies and more plants than I have now. I managed to save 11. A week later the 2nd female dropped and I saved 12.
Then Ich struck and I had to treat the tank with salt, my plants started dying and my fry started dying. I was left with 12, then 8. 6 of them went to a lady who loved guppies and I kept 2. Those 2 never recovered from the ich and died. I was heartbroken, my first ever fry and I couldn't keep them alive.

Nowadays I seem to only get 5 or 6. It seems to be the magic number. I now look at it as a blessing in disguise-my tank is only 64L it would be over run in no time if they all survived. Only 2 weeks ago my endler female who died had 5 babies, their tails went pointed and they died too. I just couldn't put my finger on what was going wrong.
I have 5 little babies in the trap at the moment. Like I said earlier when I caught them they looked a few days old. They are doing well but i'm not keeping my hopes up :(

Sorry for the essay but just trying to help people understand :)

Maybe you should setup another tank and when you see the fry try to catch the lil buggers and place them in another tank until they are big enough to survive in your main tank, If you think something is up with your water have you tried a 100% water change??

I test my water regularly and it's spot on. Other members have also said it could be due to me changing the water too much. I used to do daily water changes of 10% and a 50% change on a sunday. Now I just clean the trap daily and do a 50% change on a sunday. That's enough lol.

Yeah maybe you should do a 50% change every couple of weeks. Do you also add that safe tap water chemical? Cant think whats its called !!!

Yeah I use the bioactive tapsafe got a big bottle off ebay for a tenner. It's running out already haha!

Seachem Prime is the most recommended water treatment here. It costs more per bottle, but you use much less and ends up costing less in the long run. Plus, it removes a load of trace minerals and nasties from the water.
