My Guppy Fry Journal

That happened with one of mine, and they eventually came apart and were fine. However, most folks here who have had that experience will cull them.
Oh no I wouldn't do that but I don't know where they went. The way she had them they fell in between the plastic and the net I think they slipped through the net as the males are hovering underneath. I am catching them with the turkey baster before they fall through the divide into the bottom and putting them into the plastic marina trap. I have 10 so far :good: She dropped one and it slipped to the bottom of the net trap but it's so small I can't see it. I have kept her fed, putting a flake or 2 in when she's not dropping. I don't know when she will be done.
This is a first for me, I have never seen an actual guppy birth and it's just amazing :D

Wow congrats. That sounds awesome. I haven't seeen a birth yet either with my platys, they drop at night everytime.

Oh no not more fry!!!

10 healthy fry. One is in the net with mum. He wont come to the top but she hasn't dropped another in about an hour so I will let her out. I can still see one dot but I will let her out now.
This thread is turning into a one drop to another lol.

Congrats :)

Its always great to see it for the first time, and even when you see 100 times its still just as good to see :)

There were 2 at the bottom of the net, one escaped and darted to the plants as I was dismantling the trap to get them out and I caught the other one. I now count 12 in the plastic trap :D I will have fun watching these ones grow as most of hers died.
I will be extra careful this time around and I am not letting them into the main tank until they are at least a month old!

Congrats :)

Thanks. I have never witnessed a birth before I always seem to come home and there are the fry lol. I was worried about one who was sitting on the bottom for ages with this red thing on his belly and I was convinced he was going to die but he's up and swimming now
This is her 2nd drop for me. I am going to do my hardest to rear them, I only have 2 or 3 of her first drop left so I am really excited.
Next week my cobra female will probably drop I will save a few of hers too, to see what they turn out like.
My first set of fry who will be 5 weeks tomorrow will be going to pets at home in a few weeks time :( I will be keeping the one with the bright red tail and the rest will go.

This morning I found 2 little fry hanging about the trap but they were on the outside. I caught them and put them in the trap-that's 14 little babies, plus one on the outside who is very quick so he should be fine where he is!
As I type this I see the bigger babies chasing him but I can't get him he's too quick.
I cleaned the trap this morning and there's 13 black/dark grey fry and 1 blonde. Will love seeing them grow up since she only has 2 or 3 from the last drop left :(

So happy for you, looks like I am going to have to wait a while longer for my fry, doing the math we have had them 3 weeks and I presumed they were pregnant when we bought them but I posted some pics on here and the Experts say they have a while to go yet....so a little dissapionted BUT that could also mean that they were not pregnant at the pet store and it was my guppies that got them pregnant ( as we lost all of our 3 males to the ich) I am now quite excited to see what we get...

Thanks :) I can't wait to see what they turn out like! I have seen my all blue/black male guppy mating with the blonde female so will wait and see what happens!
Ooh how exciting. I didn't see your thread. Oh that could work in your favour it was probably your males who got them pregnant! It's always so exciting to see what the fry will turn out like. All my older fry have red tails so daddy must have been red I just wish they would hurry up and grow lol.
All the best with your females. Don't forget to keep us updated :D I love seeing everyones fry and what colours they turn out

My thoughts exactly, the fry I have at the moment are quite bland, they really have no colour at all, just sme black appearing on their tails. The next couple of weeks should be very interesting....

Aww that's like 2 of this females first drop. One fully grey and the other one smudgy who I haven't seen in a while. All her fry she had yesterday are very dark apart from 1 blonde one.
I think my cobra female is going to drop next week. MORE FRY  lol

Ok today I happened to count the fry in the trap and there's only 9 Although I have spotted 2 or 3 outside in the main tank I think they have slipped out the little vents in the plastic as the fry are so tiny. I will keep a lookout.

Mine kept doing that too, obviously they do not realize that you are trying to save them.

It's so annoying! I only have 1 of her previous fry left as they were so young when the ich broke out. Little smudgy and the other grey have disappeared :( But now I have 9 of hers in the trap who are hopefully going to make it into adulthood :D and I have 2 or 3 of them in the main tank who I hope survive too!

Some terrible news this morning. I've have 2 tragedies.
My all blue male was stuck behind the filter yesterday, I didn't notice until I moved the filter. He wasn't moving yesterday and today I found him dead too :(
I have a packet of washing up sponges. I cut the scourer side off and shoved the sponge behind the filter. Hopefully no more fatalities. I really wanted to see the blue males fry :(
My blond female was found half eaten by the snails  I am absolutely devastated my poor girl, I don't know what happened.
My water stats are:
ammonia - 0
nitrites - 0
nitrates 20-30
ph - around 7
temp 28
I did a water change anyway after I cleaned the fry trap. Everyone else seems happy and healthy. Than I started thinking - killer snails? No that's ridiculous...or is it?

On a happier note my fry are 5 days old already. I seem to have no concept of time, I don't even know what day i'm on most of the time! I didn't think the fry were almost a week old already. Time flies!
So my first fry will be 6 weeks old on friday, the 1 remaining fry from my blond females first drop is 5 weeks old but is still tiny. The others who are a week older are an inch long already (including tail) but this one is only about a cm. I don't know if it's not getting enough food or what but it's really tiny. I still put the tetra min for it as the flakes are still too big. Hope he's not ill.

I am so sorry to hear that, we lost 2 mollies this week one just this morning but it sounds the same they just stopped swimming, the only thing I can put it down to is the Ich although I never saw any spots on the ones that died...
