My Guppy Fry Journal

I know and I keep looking at them but, my tank has guppies and well only one Molly now :-(, so i didn't want to fill the tank with all fish that swim in the middle or top, so am finishing off the tank with Cory's that will add a little something to the bottom. NEED A BIGGER TANK!

Lol I will freely admit I am overstocked but my parameters are fine. I have only got a 64L tank with:
1 endler
1 male guppy
2 female guppies
2 small lyretail mollies who have been in my temp care for about 2 weeks but I haven't heard back from my mate when he's taking them back  They are the size of platies.
5 cories
and of course my 8 fry who will be going to the petshop in a few weeks :( and my 10 fry in the trap!

To look at - the tank always looks empty they are always swimming about amongst the plants and stuff. I do a 10% water change every morning due to the fry and I do a 50% change every sunday so I think I am fine for just now.

That doesn't sound overstocked to me, especially with your water change schedule.

Thanks. I am always a bit wary to put my stock in case I get slaughtered for being so overstocked! That's put me at ease a bit with these mollies, I have gotten quite attached to them, will be sad when they go back.

The only problem I have with your stocking is the numbers of each species. I'm sure you've seen in this forum that cory need to be in groups of at least 6.

Yeah I have been trying to get the cories numbers up. I only have 1 bronze-I can't find any bronze at the pets at home or dobies near me or in the next town. I was lucky to get him in the first place, the aquatics shop who is shut down now only had the one cory and it was him.
I have 2 sodalis which were the only ones there and they are quite rare as it is and I cannot find them anywhere either, and the others are ambiacus which again I can't find. There only seems to be peppered and albino now :(

I have had them since november as that group and they seem happy enough, swimming around, digging, eating algae wafers and shrimp!

I have the same problem with my ambiacus and delphax. They came in a shipment with a bunch of other cory to my LFS and he didn't even know what they were. I think they're wonderful and wish I could find more. I might go for aquabid sometime, but I've never dealt with them so I'm a little reluctant. Other people here say they have great luck with them though.

I sure wish I could trade some of my bronze for peppers!

Aww I hate that. They had my ambiacus labelled as "leopard cory"
Yeah I love my cories - esp the sodalis - the spiral pattern they have is amazing. They all follow each other and love going through the bubbles!
I have heard a lot of positive feedback about aquabid, I wish we something like that in the UK :(

I think it just depends-if you are committed to doing the water changes and keeping the tank clean then fine.

Exactly, I am trying to keep the main tank under stocked a little as I do want to keep some of our babies. If and when my husband ever manages to Finnish our basement I will have the room for a bigger tank but he has been working on it for 4 years now so not holding my breath.

Aww he's taking his time and doing it right lol. I live in a flat I don't have space for a bigger tank (unless I got rid of the sound system which is taking up one wall...hmmm...)
I need to be realistic though. The thing stopping me is if I move to somewhere bigger-how am I taking it with me lol. Oh the just the thought of it makes me nervous

Don't think I will ever move again!! The move from England to Calgary 4 years ago was enough to last me a lifetime.

Forgot to tell you, one of my girls looks like she swallowed a marble...think she is getting close

:hyper: oooh that's good news! Hopefully it's not too much longer!
My cobra female will probably drop next week. I doubt it's going to be tomorrow when i'm away lol. She isn't as big as my blond female was so I am hoping she has another week or so to go. I will upload a video later to show them all.

I suppose I better put pictures up since this is a guppy fry journal!
Here they are. 6 weeks old today.

These are the biggest ones, you can see how big they are compared to the female

This fry is quite chunky, it has a blue tail with a red bar at the top

This is the fry I am keeping. The only one with a full red tail

This is the cobra female in question. This was her last week.

This is her today - obv not as big so i'm guessing 1-2 weeks?

I thought I would include a pic of the mollies who were a different colour when they arrived but they are now a steel blue, shimmery colour with green. I have gotten quite attached to them. I am sure they are brother and sister. Will be sad when they have to go back :(

This is the male, he's beautiful, long flowing fins. He's very social, comes to the front when I go upto the tank.

and the female. She's still not used to me yet, very shy. She changes colour-steel grey-white.
