I suppose I better put pictures up since this is a guppy fry journal!
Here they are. 6 weeks old today.

These are the biggest ones, you can see how big they are compared to the female

This fry is quite chunky, it has a blue tail with a red bar at the top

This is the fry I am keeping. The only one with a full red tail

This is the cobra female in question. This was her last week.

This is her today - obv not as big so i'm guessing 1-2 weeks?

I thought I would include a pic of the mollies who were a different colour when they arrived but they are now a steel blue, shimmery colour with green. I have gotten quite attached to them. I am sure they are brother and sister. Will be sad when they have to go back :(

This is the male, he's beautiful, long flowing fins. He's very social, comes to the front when I go upto the tank.

and the female. She's still not used to me yet, very shy. She changes colour-steel grey-white.

The baby with the red tail is deffinatly a keeper so cute, the Mollies are stunning I an see why you wouldn't want to give them back.

Thanks, all the fry have red on their tails but his is so vibrant-he's mine! He wont stay still for a pic though haha. He's camera shy
Yeah the mollies are beautiful, they are have this shimmer that makes them look like they sparkle (like black swordtails!) I saw the female and thought she was a lyretail platy. To some people it might be obvious but I can't really tell the difference between platies and mollies apart from platies look a bit stockier and mollies are a bit bigger. My mollies are quite small just now, they are just over an inch long excluding tail.

I was doing a water change this morning and I suddenly saw a tiny fry in the main tank. Dark grey like the babies I have in the trap. They must be the same drop, the other females get big then get small again. I don't think he will survive long with the mollies.
The female molly has certainly come out her shell. She won't leave the male alone. I am also sure she ate the last remaining baby from the first drop who was really tiny because it's missing. I hope I see this little fry again but i'm not getting too optimistic.

I spotted the tiny fry again as I was changing the water this morning!!! It's obv surviving, it's not as big as the ones in the trap have gotten. One of them is massive! I will try and get pics, one of them has a grey and black speckled body. So cute.
The big fry are going to be 7 weeks old on friday. Then off to pets at home next week :(
I will be sad to see them go. Just hope after all this they end up in good homes with cycled tanks.

My cabomba finally arrived today, so I set about planting them and putting more sand in. I didn't like how they sat so got them out and put them on the table in front of the tank, I split it into 2 bunches and went to plant them again-that's when I noticed something wriggling-it was a tiny fry, I was so alarmed to see it there, I gently lifted it(it was sticky and horrible) and put it in the trap, I am sure it's the one from the main tank-where else did it come from lol. He is swimming about fine I will keep an eye on him, hopefully it will be fine :)

EDIT- I just plugged the filter back in, it had been off since about 9am  i'm not with it today.

At least you managed to catch it, now it is safly in the net with its siblings I am sure it will catch up on the growing front. Any news on your other girls yet? Mine are still fat....the fry are over 4 weeks old now, think all the ich problems must have slowed thing down.

No unfortunately. The cobra female with the 1 fin is still round but she's about the same size as last week so possibly just a grubber lol. The other one is as big as her now. I dont know if that one fry is maybe one of theirs. I wouldn't think so.

Yikes girly! Drink a cup of coffee and get with it!

Oh I know. I have been worse - like the split second moment of panic "where's my glasses" and they are on my face...

I don't drink coffee but if I did i'd be buzzing haha!

Ok so I got OCD about my plants and just spaced everything out more and spotted another tiny fry! I'm like  Now that the cabomba is there he might survive with the adults. I also noticed today my females love to nip me lol. I put my hand in and felt something on my arm - the 2 of them nipping away probably thought I was food lol.
Stay tuned for the next thrilling episode in...when guppies ATTACK...
Anyway here is the tank how it looks now

2 week old fry :)

Well I didn't see the fry whilst doing a water change earlier. Might be in the cabomba. I love cabomba it's so bushy and full. I will get some more and just have the whole right side covered.
My fry are officially 2 weeks old today. Some of them are huge!
My other fry are 7 weeks old tomorrow. My fry with the full red tail now has a red dorsal fin and what looks like the start of black marks on his tail. It's so exciting watching these fry grow and develop colours. Some of them are still colourless so maybe females? Also at what age will they start getting the obvious signs for male and female?
Thanks

From what I have read on here between 9-12 weeks, but as you have said the males colour up quicker than the females, thought I also read somewhere that there are almost always more girls than boys, but saying that with the new ish tank the Mollies the fry, the guppies the fry the ich and everything els on top my brain is kind of swimming in information so could very well be wrong...lol

Ah right. Aww that's a lot to deal with. I have resumed to the fact that the cobra female has dropped her fry and the 2 I seen in the main tank are hers.

Well - i'm about to put pics up just now of 3 of the fry. Wait until you see the size of them-I had a hunch these were females as they are so big and hardly any colour on them but I noticed today that they all have gravid spots so that's confirmed my hunch!
These fry are 7 weeks old tomorrow.

The first female-she is colourless. You can make out her gravid spot.
femalebaby.jpg

The 2nd female (on the right)-she has a red bar on the top of her tail. You can see her gravid spot too
femalebaby2.jpg

The 3rd female-again colourless but can just make out her small gravid spot.
femalebaby3.jpg

This is proof gravid spot does not indicate pregnant! It indicates female lol.

I've had a wild strain Guppy colony going for just over two months and there is much higher ratio of females to males, about 4/1.

I love this thread NY28, nearly as much fun as a "Roller Coaster"

BTH what camera do you use, and did you get the corner setup you had your eye on ?

Oh yeah, how are they getting on? Did you have fry? That would be awesome to see! I think the smaller fry are males but these ones are easily double their size. Plus the fact that they are colourless gives it away lol

Aww thankyou! It's been tough but i've managed to keep guppies alive for more than a few hours which is a huge achievement for me-I don't know if you read my posts before about the guppies constantly dying. It was just my tank wasn't cycled. I even have 2 mollies who are swimming about happy and they like good water stats don't they? I say happy but that male must be terrified-the female won't leave him alone. She is wild lol.
I started this thread to help others who are like me and have been searching for pics of fry at different stages but couldn't find anything.

I have a little pink sony cybershot camera. It's only a 14MP. I usually adjust it to "underwater" mode before taking pics but it still finds it hard to focus on the "main fish" and blur the background. I'm not a photographer so there's no point in me getting a big fancy camera - it would get wasted lol.
I didn't get that corner unit unfortunately. I am just put off by the fact that if I move I have to haul it with me lol. I recently adopted a kitten from the local shelter so he is keeping me busy right now :) he's 6 weeks old now and a handful!

I will try and get pics of the fry I am keeping. Also I don't know if you remember the pics I put up about 2 or 3 weeks ago (actually it could have been last week-I am lucky if I know what day i'm on most of the time) I put pics of little fry from the first batch who were colourless-these are now turning blond like their mum :) still nowhere near as big as the girls but that's to be expected.

Hi this is my fist post,

Great job breeding the guppies I started fish keeping two years ago and guppy breeding a few months after,I had 1 male flame guppy and two females, One of the females died  but the other one bred with the male to produce yes you guessed it flame fry :hyper: anyway i got a breeding net with fine mesh so even newborns couldn't get out. They grew up but then I spotted a new face in the tank a fry that i had failed to see. I tried to save it but it escaped my empty jam jar  unfortunately i thought they were big enough and i let them out only to watch in horror as they were eaten NOOOOOOOO!!! however two of the net ones survived and so did the grow in the tank one
unfortunately to different means all the females but the tank bred one died  however I decided to buy a leopard guppy male to be friends. eventually i got a healthy load of 13 fry I have a new tank cycling just for them now they have flame colouration with leopard markings. but what is better is the weird kind of mottled pattern on the front of leopard guppies. THEY HAVE IT. and even better IT'S RED!!!!!!!!!!! I might just get some pictures up as well if you have the patience to read this there is some good news too the tank bred one is still living. :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: :hyper:

Thank you for listening I'm not Morgan Freeman
