My Guppy Fry Journal

Right so every morning for the last 2 weeks or so there's been a puddle under my tank. I have looked and the water level is always the same, it's never dropped. I don't know where the water is coming from. I am thinking that it's collected when I open the tank - the water drips down the back. I really hope it's not leaking, I don't have money to spare to buy a new one, I have car tax to buy and thats sitting at about £235 at the moment
If I didn't have that to buy the corner unit would be bought!
Anyway, the guppy fry are off to pets at home tomorrow, apart from the one with the bright red tail. It will be so sad handing them over :( Just hope they go to good homes when they are big enough.

Could it be the filter? Mine was knocked last week and at a bit of an angle and dripping on the floor. Just a thought.

I don't think it is. I have the fluval U2 filter, it has 3 settings and mines is on B which means the stream comes from the middle of the filter. So it has to be completely submerged. I noticed however the water is always at the front right of the tank. Weird isn't it? Then I thought maybe it is the water dripping out the back as I lift the lid several times to clean the fry trap and feed them. Could be that as like I said-the waters not dropping lol it's a mystery!

Does seem strange but I think if the water level is not dropping then the tank can't be leaking.

Yeah I have been in a panic thinking oh god what if the tank is leaking, I can't replace it. I am looking at it just now and there's no water it's only in the morning so something must be dripping very slowly.

Puddle in front of your tank every morning !....New kitten !...bad Apollo....

Sorry NY , had to slip that one in, I do hope its not a leak though. I had a 3 footer go on me a couple of years ago, I was in my kitchen and suddenly heard what sounded just like somebody taking a wizz on on the living room carpet, ran to see what it was and water was spouting out from the centre at the base of the tank. Good thing I was home, no loss of fish or damaged equipment, just pulled the plug out of the socket put a bucket and washing up bowl under the spout and netted the fish straight into another tank, that was a mad half hour. The base unit had sagged very slightly in the middle causing the glass base of the tank to detatch from the front glass...Mess!

Been trying to post some Guppy photo's but photobucket keeps locking my screen up :grr:

I hope it's not a leak either, I won't know what to do  Aww Apollo is a very good boy, he's been with me a week (it feels longer lol) and he's had to be left himself on saturday just there and when I came back-immaculate, he never has an accident - for now lol.
Oh photobucket is unstable at the best of times lol. I can't wait to see the pics.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for ya, might be an idea to have one of those cheap little clearseal tanks in case of emergencies !

The photo's are a bit dissapointing, Plenty of the girls but the boys are just to rapid ! My mate says they are impossible to photograph, as soon as p/bucket lets me I'll put some of the better ones up.

Oh that's good then, you are keeping us in suspense with these pics!
I have seen some belters on gumtree-really big tanks for £60/£70 once again, I have to think realistically :( I should be banned from gumtree haha!

I put my baby guppies on gumtree as a last bid attempt before going to pets at home as I really dont want them going there and ending up with people like me-uneducated and know nothing about cycling. A woman replied an hour after putting the ad up. She's a bit older and she's had platies for years. She wanted to add some guppies and will take all the babies :good: I phoned her this morning and she is coming tomorrow to pick them up. There are 6 which are going and I am keeping the one with the red fins and tail and the one with the yellow tail and red bars.

I know i'm so relieved they are going to a good home! Still be sad to see them go, my tank will be seriously empty-well until the 12 2 week old fry can go into the main tank!

I thought i'd take the last pics of the babies before they go tomorrow :(

Well that's Ann came and collected the fry :( I had advertised them as 6. I caught and bagged 6 fry apart from my red tailed boy, she was really wowed by my big tailed cobra male so I gave him to her too :)
I am glad they have been rehomed to a good person. This is what i'm saving the fry for, so people can appreciate them like I do. She is waiting for my younger fry too, said to give her a call when they are big enough.
So I was looking at my empty tank and saw another fry come out from behind the cabomba-and it's a female! She must have hid!
So now I have a male and female fry, an endler, a female guppy (the cobra one with only one side fin) and a male and female molly. I will maybe get another female molly - the male gets such a hard time from this one. She is pretty dominant. He usually ends up cowered in amongst the plants :(
The fry I have in the trap will be 3 weeks old tomorrow.
While I was typing this Ann phoned and said that's them home safe and sound and floating. She is going to give me 2 of her females, just to get new "bloodlines" Can't wait :D

It is always nice when you know that you have given them away to someone who is really going to look after them like you have.

Exactly. This is what i'm doing it for-I didn't sell them, it's not about making money it's about finding knowledgeable homes after the hard work i've done to keep them alive! I just gave tnem away so she is giving me 2 of hers! Exciting stuff!
