5teady_2012 - Rehoming isn't an option, she was given to me by my mate who had too many fish in his tanks. She has already given me fry and she is here to stay I have been thinking about a small fry tank however since b and m sell them for utter cheapness-£12 for a small tank. Ideal for fry.

thats why in my pervious post to you i said if you have room then her own tank would be good

Thanks it's a bit of now you see her now you don't. She keeps going into hiding. I am more panic stricken than her about these babies!! This will be her 2nd drop with me and i'm really excited. Her first babies will be 4 weeks old on friday (I got confused,I thought the older fry were hers but its the younger ones) so I am thinking she will drop around then. Her fry have yet to colour up, there's 2 grey ones and a white one left.

On a different note - the fry who are older, will be 5 weeks old on saturday and they are really getting big and starting to colour up! 1 of them whose pic I put up earlier has a gorgeous red tail, one has 2 red bars on the top and bottom of his tail and the rest of the tail is yellow. There is another one with red on the tail too so i'm thinking daddy was red lol. The others have yellow tinges to their tails and 2 of the biggest ones are still white!

I also want to put again a big thankyou to everyone who has helped me and has followed my thread since the beginning - I didn't actually think I would get any replies and look at us now sitting on page 11. I hope it's been a learning curve for others as it has for me

After reading about it here, I just joined the freecycle groups in my area! I'm offering some baby clothes and toys and leftover diapers for my first posts. SOmeone has a female hamster offered with it's house and food! I'm freaking out! I love hamsters and haven't had one in 2 years. My hubby might kill me though since there is a fishtank on every surface as it is

Lol! I don't have space for a bigger tank really, I was thinking of another tank for fry but the tanks which are being given away have no lids-I have an almost 3 year old and in a few weeks time will have a kitten (the cat shelter will let them go at 8 weeks )so I need something covered!

Yup, a lid would be a good idea...my 2 1/2 yo is always sticking his arms in the buckets when I am water changing. Would hate to see him with the larger tanks...or trying to feed the fish.

It's a small family run shelter, they just ask for a donation. The woman who owns the place came over yesterday just to check things over and go through the adoption process and we're all set

My girl feeds the fish every morning I give her a pinch and she feeds the adults, I then crush up a little bit for the babies.

The blonde female seems to be on her best behaviour, she hasn't been harassing anyone she is really just keeping to herself. I haven't seen her for some time again. She was like this yesterday before her crazy turn. I don't actually see any of them, must be in amongst the plants.

Ok so here is my blonde female, the pics were taken last night when the lights were off hence the awful quality

As you can see she is a cube with fins. The gravid spot is now massive and goes all the way up so it's only a matter of days I would say. Last time she delivered on a saturday, it's thursday today so maybe she will do a repeat of last time. I usually come back from being out and there they are lol.

Ok i'm in a panic now aarrgghhh! So yesterday when I put the female into the net for a few hours, I was checking periodically in case she had dropped but she hadn't so I let her back out. I was about to put the net away when I spotted movement! One little black fry and one little grey fry. I got the turkey baster and put them into the plastic trap as they can get through the net. They were in the net all along. Now I have a dilema. I let her out yesterday and she was probably in labour. As you can see in the pics she is still very huge-have I caused her to maybe stall the labour or worse will she abort now? All the others are chasing her I hope she's not dropping as they are behind her.

Another update:
I think she is dropping just now, I have turned the tank lights off to let her do her thing and I will catch whatever babies I see. I managed to find 3 black babies and 1 grey baby. Her last fry were 2 grey (smudgy is hers) and 2 blonde!
There is another black baby dashing about in amongst the cories I can't get to him but i'll leave him there he will be fine with them. I'm so excited! They are so tiny I forgot how small they were!

Thanks, she is in the net now cus I saw her have a baby and a male ate it. She just had another baby and I put it in the plastic trap. I have never seen newborn baby guppies before, it seems to have a very fat belly and is just sitting on the bottom of the trap-is this normal? Usually I have found the babies at a day old.

I'm witnessing the birth just now. She has had another 4 without problems but there's now something wrong. It looks like 2 tails coming out her at the same time but the heads are stuck. They just came out. It looks like conjoined twins and it's motionless

That happened with one of mine, and they eventually came apart and were fine. However, most folks here who have had that experience will cull them.
