Welp tomorrow morning we shall see -_-

I am even using my lieu time to make sure I get to test not only at 6/7 when I wake up but at 11 which would be 12 hours or there abouts.

Wish me luck. No seriously, wish me luck!

Had I been right then today would have been the start of my qualifying week. I guess it's just wishful thinking even though the 24 hour starvation diet worked for my a-bacs.

I'll test again before I leave for work which is at 11am (12 hour slot) just to make sure but I really don't see the nitirite dropping from 1.6 to 0 in that time.

It will be interesting to see what results my 24 hour slot/test time yields.

@ BethK Much appreciated!!!!!

Ok I did my third nitrite test of the day *24 hour slot* and it has fallen to barely readable. And by this I mean the colour isn't visible in the test tube but the surface of the test tube has a very light tinge of the lightest pink possible. Far lighter than any of the colours on my chart

But again only visible on the top/surface of the tube.

As you can probably tell by reading the above. I am kinda confused here

They don't turn into any colour. It simply looks a dense liquid falling into water. I shake and then leave the tubes for two minutes and compare to my chart.

The water itself has no colour but the surface of the water in the tube has a extremely light tint.

I have two nutrafin test kits now and use both just to be sure but both readings are the same. Any advice?

Hmm weird, have you washed the test tube thoroughly? Perhaps re testing is in order. I have had a few iffy tests an I'm sure Simon knows of my scare the other night.

On my new cycling tank if I drop the Nitrite test in, it goes dark blue/deep purple instantly whilst it's falling then it goes off the scale. It's always a full bodied colour same with our current stocked tank its light blue throughout.

Only coloured in one part seems odd.

Dropped anything in your fish tank?

well the nitrite testing liquid (assuming its API?) is actually blue... so if it isn't blue and isn't purple as soon as it touches the water, something isn't right imo and probably is that buffer stuff you put in? is there any chance it could still be in the water (100% waterchange might be in order?)

I had nitrites of the scale for a while and as the solution hit the water the colour would form before it reached the bottom of the test tube. By the time I had added the last drop the result was off the chart before I even began shaking the tube.

With these results I watched the solution go in and there was no colour change. But the tinge was at the top of the water sort of like a film of olive oil on still water just nowhere near as thick.

I haven't added anything to my tank and the tubes are rinsed after every test and left upside down on a sheet of bounty after every use.

Right yeah, was mixing up two logs. Not sure what it could be unfortutunately, beyond me -_-

Try this...

Completely empty your test tube, put your finger over the end of the tube to trap air in. Submerge the test vial into the water to the bottom of the tank. Take your finger off to fill it up. Cover it up again bring it out
empty out until required amount. Then test it.

It will prevent anything which is floating on the surface of your tank water contaminating your test. Perhaps something has appeared.

My current cycling tank has a weird oily surface at the moment like what happens when the fish food breaks down. I also found a humongous amount of biofilm all over the thermometer.
