If it is just the bettas then that would work.
 
Wouldn't put guppy fry in with them as they might eat the smaller ones.

It might also be beneficial while you wait for a clear tank to purchase one betta and house it in a small (not TINY) tank, to gain some prior experience with one instead of jumping in and getting several

I don't have enough money to buy a new tank.  And this is just an idea I am debating about.
