Maidenhead Aquatics............

My Maidenhead Aquatics is only 20 min away. The guy who runs it is very knowledgeable especially in Brackish and you don't find that very often. The rest of the Staff is very good and they all have been there since it opened. They just set up a Brackish Tank, I think it's 4x4x4 with Archers and Mudskippers. It's one of the best tanks I have seen in a LFS.

I am lucky also to be in easy reach to two Maidenhead Aquatics, visited the one in Iver spent ages talking to a lovely guy at the end of our approx hour chat he said nice meeting you I'm Rob the manager  All the staff give you a friendly greeting (even though I think they are happy when I have left  ) so helpful wouldn't go anywhere else :good:

My local Maidenhead Aquatics is only about 10 minutes' drive away, and is an excellent shop. I go there alot and am quite well known.
The staff are always on hand with good advice and the fish and tanks they keep all look in great shape.

Which one is that Sabby? I'm desperate to get some mudskippers at the moment, and their display tank sounds like what i want to do with the tank i've got waiting for some...

There are two in northampton, one in Harlestone and one on the Newport Pagnell road. The one in Harlestone is brilliant, we deal with a young lad there and he is always willing to help. The other one is not as good in our experience and they haven't got as big a selection.

Hi Fella

It's in Woodlands Nursery, Stapleton, Leicetsershire. I think from Nottingham it would be about 45 min drive. From Nottinham take the M1 south and than get onto the A42(M42) come of for Achbt de la Zouch/Coalville. Take the A511 towards Coalville and the first roundabout you come to turn right onto the A447 about 8 miles down that road you will see a sign for Stapleton and Woodlands Nursery is on you right hand site. The guy you want is South African. I want to go this weekend as I need fish for my 55 gal. but I think anything unusall he will have to order. I will take a picture of the Archer Tank.

That's the one I use - highly recomended. And you're right about the Archer Tank - stunning display!

My local Maidenhead Aquatics is only about 10 minutes away and, despite being a smaller branch, has an excellent little selection of fish and good staff who are helpful and know their stuff. There's another branch within easy reach in Cardiff which is good too. Neither have any Tanganyikans in stock at the moment, so I took a trip to the store in Pontardullais, near Swansea, at the weekend. This store was the best I've seen yet, with a stunning array of stock, all beautifully kept. :good:

Thank you! Unfortunately I don't drive so I'll have to wait a little while before I ever actually get to see it.

As it is I take the bus to Wharf Aquatics...

thanks to this topic i found the one local to me in beverly, went and had a look round at the weekend
was amazed how many tanks there were and the staff were very helpful,
will be going back there in future :good:

I visit the store in Cardiff.

TBH my opinions are varied. They have a great selection of fish generally and are not a generally rip off price wise, but it does make sense to have an idea of what you should be paying because soem fish tend to be overpriced.

In terms of advice etc. I havn't been overly impressed TBH. Nobody in the shop had heard of fishless cycling - now I know that it isn't widely known outside the hobby, but I would expect MA staff - and I wasn't talking to saturday part timers - to have at least a rudimentary understanding of the principle.

I also went to the store to stock up after completing my cycle - now bear in mind that means fully stocking otherwise there isn't much point in going through a fishless cycle - they refused to sell me more than 8 fish. Now I know that they thought they were doing their best, but despite explaining fishless cycling etc. they looked at me as though I had no clue what I was doing and still refused to sell the fish. Fortunately I then went to a World of Water store, explained the situation there and bought my fish no bother.

The fish I have bought at MA have been good and healthy.
Mind you last time I was there they had stickers all over the stock tanks saying that the fish were new and were being 'acclimatised'. What a load of Bo!!0@$ - loads of the tanks were suffering from the worst cases of whitespot I had seen - why not just admit there's a problem and say that the fish are being treated. There were also loads of dead fish in the tanks - now this was a bit of a one off and it was very busy so I guess the staff hadn't had the opportunity to clear the corpses out, but all the same it has made me far more wary about buying stock there.

Fortunately the store is only about 5 mins from where I work, so I can pop in regularly to see their stock in the days leading up to a purchase - which are always planned BTW.

Hi Highfire

If you are only 10 min away from Woodlands where are you from?

Sabby

Actually, I thought they were in Maidenhead also and have never bothered looking at them since they are so far away - or not, as the case may be...thanks for the heads-up.

Theres even one in Northampton - in Wotton (never heard of it)

They have 2 in Northampton, both are pretty good, either side of town, one Wooton near M1 J15 heading into Northampton, (Usually has some great plants) 5 potted for £10 and then the other is on the A428 I think heading into town, both are located within Wyevale centers.

I visit both these regularly, have brought fish from both, never had ay problems. The one in Wooton has had some great plants.

Hi,
I also use the Cradiff MA, At the moment they are setting up a new 10½ft x 10½ft x3ft Tank and stocking it with leopard sharks biggest tank in the country so they say.

scubadoo, Where is the World of water store ????

All The Best
Eds

I also thought they were mainly down south, then found there is one near Derby on the A38 and it's quite good :good: Only problem is it's in a garden centre, so on weekends when I can get in it's full of gardeners

I also ended up chatting with a really helpful and friendly bloke for about 15 mins and as I left he shook my hand and informed me he was the manager.
