My OH has been offered a year in industry with the company he works for, and I'd miss him too much to stay behind. Plus this way, if I take a year out, we'll still finish our degrees in the same year.

The company he works for is in Emeryville, CA

Now comes the actual money sums to see if it's actually do-able on 1 wage. I'm likely to be working part time too for the company I work for atm in the Uk, but as his is the only 'sure' income. It's the one we're doing the sums on.

Gotta say that the american renting system is definitely giving me a bit of a headache though. It's so so different.

And it means I'll definitely have to re-home all my fish at the end of the year. :(

WELCOME TO AMERICA!! my uncle lives in California he lives in the capital sanfransico. Will you be getting any knew fish in cali?

Confusing things so far:

What the heck is free rent?
Coombs?

I doubt I'll be getting new fish. I may set up a small tank with some shrimp just as something to look at/after. But that's it, I'll only be there for the year so it's not worth having to sell up again.

So long as you don't leave the forum! We can't lose members, the more active the better!

are you currently in the UK Curiosity101

@Verminator - Whilever I have an internet connection and some free time I will be here... just around 8 hours later than usual lol.

@Simons - Yup, Originally Sheffield but atm I'm at uni in Nottingham.

You can't leave me curiosity!!!!

Cheers,
Alessa!

crikey so a fair old change in scenerey then!!!

good luck pal

@Alessa - lol, another country, will still be online though

@Simonas - Oh yes... grey dreary drizzley england vs sunny california. I've gotta say it didn't take too long for me to decide that it was worth taking a leave of absence (year out) on my degree.

Its a real shame you are moving temporarily to the USA. You have some stunning fish

I might see if I can strike a deal with someone in the nearby area to me to keep a few of my faves. Thing is it'd start like 'Oh just this pair'... 'oh but then there's those' Next thing I know I'm basically trying to get someone to look after my whole stock for me for a year. lol.

lucky lucky you! Grab that chance with both hands.....even if you have to both live on a shoe-string budget.

Emeryville, famous for being the location of Pixar Studios (I may have just watched a documentary about them)

Lol, trust me I am grabbing with both hands. His flights will be paid, and apparently they may make a contribution towards rent which would be great. Plus if I speak to my boss and get down some definite hours... say 16 hours a week. Then we should be 'comfortable' which is fine by me.

UC Berkeley is also a massive centre for genetics, which is the course I'm doing at Uni, so if I could get any lab/work experience then that'd be a big bonus to my employability at the end of my degree.

It's all looking good, just getting a bit confused at all the visa stuff and rental things. lol.

theres just one question

atleast youll have the terminator running the place

 That hadn't even occured to me Bae! Atm I'm just reading visa stuff. Looks like I should hopefully be able to get a tourist visa and then extend it for and extra 6 months hopefully once I'm there.

I'm hoping 'My OH who I've been with for almost 5 years has a work visa for a full 12 months, please let me stay with him :-( ' Will work. lol.
