Lily Rose Tank No. 2

Well you don't want to cram the media in so tightly that the water wouldn't be able to flow through it properly. At the end of medication you'll be forced to take out -something- (perhaps the least mature sponge, the one you are putting in right now, late in the game.) And you'll put back in your existing carbon to clear out the meds. The carbon will be active doing that for 3 days, then you'll want to replace it with -another- carbon cartridge/bag and run that for another 3 days and then toss that one in the trash too. After all that you'll put your sponge back in (you could float it in the tank meanwhile and some of the bacteria might persist.)

Yes, we all get to know the disease names early on and talk about them rather matter-of-factly but usually they are very much a life and death struggle for the fish themselves, which of course revolves back around to our reason for working so hard on our beginners to do the full fishless cycling thing. Hang in there Jayne, we know you're working hard at it!

I don't see any ich on your fish unless some of what I think are water spots are on the fish themselves. I have never tried to do an ich treatment with a cycle so I can't be certain how those interact, but I don't lose fish doing a salt and temperature treatment. That treatment takes only a few days to clear all the fish of symptoms and after a week total I am usually using my regular water changes to gradually remove the excess salt in the water. The temperature comes back down to normal at about the same time.

hi OM47. i tried the increased temp and salt method for a week, their symptoms got worse and i lost a few fish.the majority of the photos were taken pre ich. the last one of 6 girlies is after they lost their spots but some of the fry still have spots and violet and moonbeam ost their spots today, only rosie has one left on her tail. and minnis has a white sore on her snout, above her mouth

A few days more of treatment and you should be able to stop the treatment if the last of the ich spots are finally gone now.

OM47 as I said in previous post the fry have whitespot too, so waiting for them to shed them too. Lost our red wag tail this morning...she was gone before I got up bless.
I'm expecting to loose them all now. I guess we live and learn.
