Lily Rose Tank No. 2

Good Evening guys. This evenings exciting results are

Ammonia 0ppm added 4ml...4ppm
nitrite 5
nitrate 80!
pH 8.4! whoops, did i add too much bicarb?

Thanks waterdrop

Today are a little later sampled...11am
Ammonia 0.25
Nitrite 1ppm
Nitrate 160ppm!....I tested it twice....how is this..I have tested the tap water....0ppm
pH 8

haha, 11am test and I still grinding my first coffee beans under dark windows

Well, as always with nitrate(NO3) tests, one should wait until there are repeats of a given set of numbers before believing them in any way, but if it bears out that its looking like 160ppm in there (and that would be normal at some point because in fishless we are dumping a ton of nitrogen in there and its gotta go somewhere afterall) then a full gravel-clean-water-change will be in order (complete with ammonia and bicarb recharge etc.)

Nitrate 5ppm
ph 8
temp 28

Yesterday evenings results were
Ammonia 0ppm...added 4ml=4ppm
Nitrites 1ppm
Nitrates 5ppm
pH 8

This mornings results are:

Good morning guys and gals
This mornings results are:

Ammonia 0ppm
Nitrite 1....first drop?
Nitrate 80-160ppm
pH 8

Hello therre guys and gals todays results are

am...ammonia 0ppm
nitrite 1ppm
nitrate 80-160ppm
pH 8

pm... ammonia 0ppm...dosed 2.5mls
nitrite 0.50ppm
nitrate 160ppm
pH 8.2

Just a question, I've been doing other tests durimng the day without reporting them, and I've noticed that ammonia is clearing in 6 hours...this is ok right?,....should I up the dose, don't want my A-bacs dying off through lack of food?

Good morning everyone.
This mornings results are:
Ammonia 0ppm
Nitrites 0.50ppm
Nitrates 10ppm....how has this gone so low?
I'll do pH later

This evenings results are:
Ammonia 0ppm...added 3mls
Nitrites 0.50ppm
Nitrates 80ppm
pH 8

Good morning fellow Aquarists. this mornings results are
Ammonia 0ppm
Nitrites 0.50ppm
Nitrates 10ppm
pH 8

can some one enlighten me as to what green stuff is growing on my big cream stone...is it possible to get algal growth when there are no plants present?

Agree, its algae. I assume you've been turning the light on so the kids can see the tank but are you leaving it on all day?

You are now past the nitrite spike and thus entering the 3rd phase of fishless cycling. Several things change now. If you've been reducing your ammonia concentration during the nitrite spike, its time to ease it back up to 4-5ppm so that you can get as close as possible to 5ppm for the finish. The other thing that changes is that all that ammonia getting put in day after day is being cycled through to create nitrate(NO3) and its now gone so high (past 160ppm) that the nitrate test is probably beginning to get even more wacky. To me, this means its now a good time to consider beginning your practice cleaning sessions for becoming a fishkeeper. Occasionally (I would say every other weekend or every weekend or something but you may be home some with Lily Rose and have a very different than normal schedule) when its convenient I would do a big gravel-clean-water-change (not a filter clean) and then be careful to refill with conditioned, roughly temperature matched return water and recharge your ammonia back up to 4-5ppm and recharge your baking soda if you're using that. I'd make the water change right down to the gravel. What this will do is get most of the nitrate(NO3) out and make sure that its not slowing the N-Bac development. It will also refresh the calcium and iron and other trace elements, while getting rid of algae spores and other things. Your testing will now move up to every 12 hours if its not already there but of course nitrate(NO3) does not need to be tested for all that often and pH need not be every time, especially if you're using baking soda.

The goal now is to watch the N-Bacs be able to clear the nitrite faster and faster, starting by getting it to zero ppm within 24 hours after NH3 was added and then working down to 12 hours after it was added. Ammonia of course is already there but don't be surprised if it seems to lose ground at some point as it frequently does seem to do this.

Thankyou waterdrop, I'm already ahead of you for once, Just did an Ammonia full dose.4.5ml
Will do a ammonia test to check if at 4ppm.
